Dawn Staley

Dawn Roark Staley, 57, of Lenoir, formerly of Ashe County, died on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at her home. Mrs. Staley was born on Dec. 30, 1955, in Ashe County to James Butler and Connie Brown Roark. Her hobbies included playing piano, crocheting, and crafts. She enjoyed camping, playing games, and Facebooking with family and friends. Mrs. Staley was a member of Narrow Way Baptist Church and attended Norcross Church.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Pastor Johnny Hicks, Pastor Charlie Krump, and Pastor Keith Casey. Burial will follow in the Scott-Blevins Cemetery in Lansing.

Mrs. Staley is survived by her husband, Ronnie Stewart Staley Sr. of Lenoir; son, Ronnie Staley Jr. of Lenoir; daughter, Michelle Oakes of Lenoir; parents, J.B. and Connie Roark of Crumpler; brothers, Melvin Roark of Lansing, Ernie Roark of Boomer, and Ivan Roark of Ronda; grandchildren, Tiffany Oakes, Emma Staley, Alex Staley, and Cole Staley; great-grandchildren, Kylee Styles and Carter Styles; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Margaret Oakley

Margaret Elaine Oakley, 67, of Lenoir died Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at the residence. She was born July 4, 1946, in Caldwell County to the late Charles W. and Mary “Polly” McGee Oakley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles A. Oakley, and grandparents, Florence McGee Walsh and the Rev. D.A. and Bessie Miles Oakley.

Ms. Oakley was retired from Belk Department Store after 32 years of service. She was a life-long member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She loved and adored her church family

Survivors include one brother, M. Douglas Oakley and wife Theresa of Lenoir, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Uiyeon Kim and the Rev. Joyce Bunn. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Serving as pallbearers will be Sonny Newcomb, Greg Hollar, Charles Oakley, Larry Jump and Richard Green.

Paul Caldwell

Paul Caldwell, 82 of Granite Falls passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, Robbins Center, Hudson.

Born Sept. 9, 1931, in Caldwell County, he was the son of the late W.C. Caldwell and Lucy Berkley Caldwell. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Settlemyre Caldwell; two brothers, George and Wayne Caldwell; and one sister, Johnsie Woods.

Mr. Caldwell was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

He is survived by his son, Paul Melvin Caldwell of Hickory; his daughter, Debbie Caldwell Williams and husband Steve of Granite Falls; one granddaughter, Christy Mosteller and husband Bobby of Granite Falls; and one great-granddaughter, Alyson Mosteller of Granite Falls; three sisters, Ava Rast and husband Dan of Waynesville, S.C., JoAnne McCellan of Statesville, Judy Bryant and husband Jerry of Jacksonville, S.C. ; one brother, Jack Caldwell and wife Peggy of Granite Falls; brother-in-law, Garner Settlemyre and wife Betty of Hickory; sister-in-law Mary Darty of Hickory.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, 2 p.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church with Dr. Rick Crouse and the Rev. Don Ingle officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at Bass-Smith Granite.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jimmy Caldwell, Nicholas Caldwell, Dale Caldwell, Kenneth Price, David Price and Keith Woods.

Franklin Kistler

Franklin Devon Kistler, 79, of Granite Falls passed away Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, 1 p.m. at Bass-Smith Granite Chapel. The family will receive Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013 at Bass-Smith Granite from 1 until 2 p.m.

Eddie Pipes

Charles Edward “Eddie” Pipes Jr., 66, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. He was born in Caldwell County on Feb. 26, 1947, to the late Charles Edward Pipes Sr. and Anne Smith Pipes. He was married to Billie Dula Pipes of the residence.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his son, Travis Pipes and wife Cindy; sister, Suzanne Hall and husband Steve; stepchildren, Maykaylee Dula, Lewis Dula, and Zekiel Dula; granddaughter, Trystan Pipes; and nephew, Jake Hall.

A celebration of Eddie’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Lynn Parsons officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 prior to the service.

Roger Jenkins

Roger Steven Jenkins, 69, of Valdese passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at his residence.

Roger was born on April 7, 1944, in Caldwell County to the late John Henry and Nellie Pauline Prestwood Jenkins. He was retired from the Town of Valdese water plant as a maintenance supervisor, and he formerly worked with Crestline Furniture.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Elise Shore Jenkins and one brother Robert "Bobby" Lee Jenkins.

Survivors include one sister, Carol Jenkins Gragg and husband Dolph of Lenoir; nieces and nephews Julie Zoller and husband Bill Jr. of Lenoir, James Edward Gragg and wife Angie of Lenoir, Sandy Hanson and husband Steve of Indiana, Robin Bryant of Florida and Michael Jenkins of Florida. Also surviving is his best friend "brother" David Cook of Morganton.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with the the Rev. Ed Warren officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park, Lenoir.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday from 10-11 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese.
