Paul Winkler

Paul ”PW” Henry Winkler, 72, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013. He was born Feb. 21, 1941, in Caldwell County to the late Ellis Winkler and Mary Bumgarner Winkler. Mr. Winkler was retired from Kerr Hickory Ready Mix, where he was a truck driver.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marsha Smith Winkler; two sons, Randy Winkler and wife Betsy of Lewisville, Texas, and Shane Hamby of Hudson; and one daughter, Karen Winkler Horton and fiancé Scott Powell of Sawmills. Mr. Winkler is also survived by four grandchildren, Nathan Horton, Whitney, Wesley and William Winkler.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Mackie Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at 1 p.m. with Chaplin John Robbins officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the funeral home. Burial will be private.

Paulette Barlow

Paulette Hilton Barlow, 66, of Granite Falls passed away Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at Camelot Manor in Granite Falls.

Ms. Barlow was born in Catawba County to Midge Overcash Hilton of Granite Falls and the late June Hilton.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her children, Chris Barlow and wife Shannon, and Brett Barlow, both of Granite Falls; a brother, Dan Hilton of South Carolina; and a sister, Vickie Davis of Bethlehem. She is also survived by five grandchildren.

There will be no services held at this time.

Malikah Sams

Infant Malikah Christopher Sams passed away on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2013, at his residence. Malikah was the son of Candice Victoria Sams and the grandson of David Icard and Chris Sams.

A funeral service will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Mike Cogsdale officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

Larry McCracken

The Rev. Larry Francis McCracken, 70, of Yadkin View Drive, Lenoir, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at the residence. He was born Nov. 25, 1942, in Haywood County to the late Jack P. and Clara Rogers McCracken. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Madge McCracken; brother, Donald McCracken; sisters, Joan Garland, Jackie Liner, Helen Angel and Patsy Axelrod.

Mr. McCracken was a minister to several churches in N.C. He was a member of Yakin Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Mark R. McCracken and wife Modupe of Malaysia; two daughters, Ann M. Lucas and husband John of Charlotte, and Beth M. Thomasson and husband Jeff of Hillsborough; brother, Neal McCracken and wife Jean of Canton; and four grandchildren, Claire Lucas, Maggie Lucas, Josh Thomasson and Luke Thomasson.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Yadkin Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Robert Livingston. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Serving as pallbearers will be Rick Garland, Joel McCracken, Gary McCracken, Chris Liner, Tim Liner and Ronnie Pulliam.

Pauline Denton

Pauline Smith Coffey Denton of Columbia, S.C., died on Nov. 14, 2013, at the age of 87 after a six-year battle with Alzheimer’s. Born Jan. 5, 1926, to the late Robert Rufus and Neta Ion Smith of Lenoir. She was preceded in death by her husband William David Denton and son Paul (Nell) Thomas Coffey of Columbia, S.C.

Pauline had a great love of the outdoors and sewing. If she wasn’t in the yard gardening or working in her flower beds you knew you could find her in the house sewing for someone.

She is survived by her children, Finley (Nancy) Coffey of Cayce, S.C., and Judy (Ben) Miller of Columbia, S.C.; her grandchildren, TW, JoAnne, Wendy, Rusty, Paula and Kimberly; great-grandchildren, TJ, Justin, Julie, David, Jessica, Trey, Tristan, Shannon and Callie; and great-great-grandchildren, Tomas, Aden, Josef, Skylar and Layla. She is also survived by her siblings, Avery (Nadine) Smith, Mae (James) Hartley and Wayne (Bobby) Smith, all of Lenoir.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Nov. 15, at Greenlawn Funeral Home in Columbia, S.C., from 6-8 p.m., with burial in North Carolina. The family will also receive friends and family at Heritage Funeral Service on Saturday, Nov. 16, from 1-3 p.m. with services immediately following in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.

Interment and graveside services will follow at Burke Memorial Park, Morganton.

Gregory Moody Sr.

Gregory Allen "Sonny" Moody Sr., 60, of Drexel passed away Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center following a brief illness.

Mr. Moody was born on July 9, 1953, in Catawba County to the late Edney Walter Moody and Frances Kaylor Moody. He was a self-employed carpenter, and was a member of New Life Baptist Church in Lenoir. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a son, Gregory Allen Moody Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Laney Moody of the home; his daughter, Wendy Renee Lambert and husband Robbie of Lenoir; four sisters, Patricia Upton of Lincolnton, Betty Moody of Valdese, Mary Castillo of Lincolnton, and Linda Mask of Hudson; one brother, Edney Moody of Granite Falls; and a grandson, Blake Allen Moody of Bessemer City.

A Memorial Service will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese. Officiating will be the Rev. Tom Bentley.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 4 until 5 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.

Dwight Teague

Dwight Teague, 76, of North Wilkesboro died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013. Services Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Haymeadow Baptist Church in North Wilkesboro. Visitation one hour prior to the service. Greer-McElveen Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Frank Winkler

Frank Winkler, 83, of Granite Falls went home to be his Lord and Savior on Nov. 14, 2013.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Clover Baptist Church. The family will receive friends and family from 2 to 3 p.m.

Penny Howard

Penny Turnmire Howard, 41, of Lenoir passed away Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at CMC-Charlotte.

She was born Oct. 31, 1972, in Caldwell County to the late William and Delores Beaver Turnmire.

Survivors include her husband of 11 years, Galen Robert Howard of Morris Chapel, Tenn.; a son, William Rosenberger of the home; a daughter, Amber Rosenberger of the home; a brother, Mike Turnmire of Lenoir; and a grandchild, Kaylan Raquel Mooney.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Miracle Church, 211 North Fairview Drive, Lenoir, NC 28645.

Ronald Griggs

Ronald Glenn Griggs, 71, of Lenoir passed away Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

Mr. Griggs was born March 21, 1942, in Wilkes County to the late Oren Griggs and Mable Kiser Griggs. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Glenn Griggs.

He was retired from Blue Ridge Health Care as a security guard.

Survivors include two sons, Scott Griggs of Lenoir and Michael Griggs of Cincinnati, Ohio; his mother, Mable K. Griggs of Winston-Salem; three sisters, Kristin Jackson and Sandy Beckner, both of Winston-Salem, and Pat Carpunque of Cary; and three granddaughters, Bryce Griggs of Lenoir, and Haley Griggs and Kendall Griggs, both of Cincinnati, Ohio.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Bass-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Hickory.
