Our precious mother, Mollie Wilcox Drum, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 14, 2012, at Caldwell County Hospice and Palliative Care.
Born December 8, 1932, in Watauga County, she was the daughter of the late Dave Shores and Florence Wilcox. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Drum; two brothers and one sister.
She was a member of Dry Ponds Baptist Church.
Survivors include her children, daughter, Cheryl Drum of Granite Falls, daughter, Deborah Rector and husband Steve of Granite Falls; son, Larry Drum and wife Elaine of Granite Falls; daughter, Vickie Winters and husband Larry of Hudson; son, Chip Drum and companion Scottie of Granite Falls; five grandchildren, Quincey, Larry Jr., Jamie, Davie and Jason; 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 17, 2012, at 3:30 p.m. at Dry Ponds Baptist Church with Dr. Rick Crouse and the Rev. Edd Warren officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at Dry Ponds Baptist Church prior to the service on Monday, December 17, 2012.
Serving as pallbearers will be Davie Edwards, Larry Bo Drum, Connor Drum, Jason Drum, Garrison Drum, Quincey Drum, Luke Setzer and Allen Walsh.

Sue Mae Moose Murphy, 98, of Lenoir, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care – Kirkwood.
Born May 30, 1914, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late James Samuel Moose and Sally Emma Anthony Moose.
Mrs. Murphy was a member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, where she had served as a Sunday school teacher, was a member of the Women’s Circle and enjoyed attending Bible Study gatherings.
She was an avid international traveler. Her last major trip was last year to Nova Scotia at the age of 97. She also enjoyed the mountains and making beautiful quilts. She was a wonderful lady and a great inspiration to all that knew her. She will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Murphy is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Robey Willard Murphy; a son, Larry Dale Murphy; two grandsons, Patrick Murphy and Samuel Murphy; a daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Murphy; three brothers, Paul Moose, Philip Moose and Robert Moose; and two sisters, Elsie Harkins, and Sarah Benfield.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, James Patrick Murphy (Louise), Nancy Priscilla Murphy Beard, Michael Scott Murphy (Sandra), Sally Jane Murphy Poarch, Samuel Robey Murphy (Martha), Carl Philip Murphy (Patricia) and Jackie Murphy Wilson (Ed); she also leaves behind one sister, Mattie Stutts; 20 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 17, 2012, at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the church sanctuary with the Rev. Tony Bradshaw officiating. Burial will take place at the Murphy Family Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Murphy, Matthew Beard, Brian Poarch, Stephen Murphy, Matthew Mobley and Jason Murphy.
