Thomas "Tommy" Karen Howell, 60, of Lenior died June 9, 2014. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Ebony Funeral Services of Lenior. Family at 108 Wison St., Lenior.
Oliver William Strong, 90, of Hudson passed away Friday, June 6, 2014, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital.

Du Ray "D.R." Lutz, 88, of Hickory died Sunday, June 8, 2014.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Viewmont Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Thursday 10-11 a.m. at the church. There will be a private interment at a later date.
Andrew Basil Tuck of Norfolk, Va., died Thursday, June 5, 2014, as a result of a motorcycle accident. He was born March 9, 1990, in Durham County, N.C., and was 24 years old. He was a student at Old Dominion University and majored and worked in music production.
Mr. Andrew Tuck is survived by his mother and father, Lisa Sullivan Tuck and Victor Wesley Tuck of Roanoke, Va.; girlfriend Kendall Dodson of Norfolk, Va.; paternal grandparents Emmitt and Nancy Tuck of South Boston, Va.; maternal grandparent Henrietta H. Sullivan of Hudson; two aunts, Gil Lacy and husband Greg of Halifax, Va., and Kim Jarrett-Riley and husband Gene of Hickory; and a number of cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Wayne Sullivan.
Funeral services will be held at Grace Baptist Church,1058 Buckshoal Road in Virgilina, Va., on Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jack Stewart and Darren Potter officiating. Burial will follow in Grace Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Grace Baptist Church one hour prior to the service.

Arthur Hamby Jr.
Arthur Lawrence (Bud) Hamby Jr., 72, peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, June 9, 2014, at Caldwell Hospice Robbins Center. He was born July 10, 1941, in Forsyth County to the late Arthur and Lala Floyd Hamby. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Delia Hamby Gragg, and a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Quickmire Hamby, and infant brother, Terry Joe Hamby.
Mr. Hamby was married to Barbara Jean Hall Hamby. He was educated in Forsyth and Caldwell County public schools. Mr. Hamby was a former employee of Singer Furniture Company in Hudson, where he worked as a lathe head builder and supervisor. He served as a member of the award winning fire brigade at Singer Plant #7. Mr. Hamby was a longtime member of Miller Hill Baptist Church in Lenoir. He believed in God’s providence and trusted in the Lord. Mr. Hamby was a kind and loving man who worked hard and took care of his family. He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors and was a talented craftsman. Mr. Hamby was witty, loved to tell and hear jokes and loved to laugh.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Hall Hamby of the home; a son, Larry Grant Hamby of Columbia, S.C.; and a sister, Jerry Hamby Kincaid and husband Charles H. Kincaid Jr. of Lenoir.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Steven O. Walsh. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be George Hamby, Jim Carter, Alan Smith, Tom Bryley, Clint Barlow and Jim Watson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Setzer, Camuel Houck, Doug Johnson, John Watson and June Ray Smith.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood St. NW, Lenoir, NC 28645.
The family extends its thanks for all our wonderful friends who have supported us in Bud’s illness. We especially thank the excellent care given to Bud at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in the last days of his life.
