Ted Pipes Jr.
Ted Channing "Chan" Pipes Jr., 62, of Fleetwood passed away Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at his home. Chan was born June 29, 1951, in Lenoir.
He is survived by his children, Jesse Pipes of Boone and Chelsea Pipes Smith of Salisbury, Md. Also surviving are a niece, Hannah Pipes Taylor of Lincolnton, and a nephew, Hunter Pipes of Lenoir.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Ted and Elizabeth Pipes; sister, Susan Pipes; and brother, Richard Pipes.
Chan was a Watauga County Christmas tree grower, landscape company owner, and home inspector.
He had a passion for rock and roll and hunting and will be remembered for his sense of humor and his gift for storytelling.
Private graveside services for Chan Pipes will be held at a later date at the Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Hebron Colony Ministries, 356 Old Turnpike Road, Boone, NC 28607, or to World Camp, 157 South Lexington Ave., Asheville, NC 28601.

Emma Ball Conley, 90, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at Lenoir HealthCare. She was born in Swain County on Aug. 15, 1922, to the late Turner Ball and Bertha Barnes Ball and was married to the late Clyde Conley.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her son, Larry Ball; sisters, Mildred Williams, Louise Ball, and Dovie Chavis; brothers, James “J.T.” Ball and Ernest Ball.
She is survived by her son, Russel Conley and wife Mary; stepchildren, Louise Letterman and husband Harold, Reba Miller and husband Tom, Patsy Willadean Conley, and Donnie Conley and wife Debbie; sisters, Ethel Byles, Florence Sipes, Dean Strickland, and Frances Ball; grandchildren, Ethan Conley, Ansley Conley, Donna Vance, Dana Cogdell, and James Harris; five great-grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Sunrise Baptist Church on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Pastor David Woods and Pastor Ed Warren officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. prior to the service.

Charlie Clark Sr.
Charlie Edgar Clark Sr., 85, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Lenoir.
Born Oct. 16, 1927, in Caldwell County, Charlie was a son of the late Houston and Zillah Clark. He was an Army veteran having served during World War II. He was Christian by faith and was a charter member of the Mulvale Baptist Church. Charlie was a truck driver and worked for the Newton Transportation Company for 40 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Crotts, and a brother, Jeter Clark.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Betty K. Clark of the home; three children, Charlie Clark Jr. and wife Linda, Michael Clark, and Karen Clark and fiancé Keith St. John, all of Lenoir; and seven grandchildren, Stacie Herman, Brent Clark, Nick Clark, Darren Clark, Jeremy Storie, James Storie, and Raven Shook. Charlie is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren, four sisters, three brothers, and numerous other relatives.
A celebration of Charlie’s life will be held on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Brian Smith and Pastor Steve Walsh officiating. Interment will follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeremy Storie, James Storie, Nick Clark, Raven Shook, Brad Clark and John-David Miller.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.

Leola Watson Wolfe, 75, of Lenoir died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care – Lenoir. She was born Feb. 12, 1938, in Caldwell County to the late Gurney and Ivelta Valentine Watson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert R. Wolfe; daughter, Melinda K. Wolfe; and brother, Edward Watson.
Mrs. Wolfe was retired from the furniture industry and was a member of Yadkin Valley Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Dianna Walsh and spouse Melody Walsh of Clarkesville, Tenn., and Robin Wolfe Price of the home; daughter at heart, Wanda Calloway; sisters, Gwendolyn Steger and husband Robert of Swansboro, Vivian Cook of Morganton, Carol Taylor and husband Burl and Nina Dula, both of Lenoir; grandchildren, Joshua Price, Jamie Price, Autumn Walsh and Abby Walsh; and two great-grandchildren, Dilon Price and Daniel Price.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Bobby Pritchard. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Marty Dula, Greg Whisnant, Bryan Whisnant, Allen Taylor, Ronnie Steger and Steve Prichard.
