Leanna Pulley Veasley, 98, of Lenoir died Sept. 15, 2013. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced by Ebony Funeral Services of Lenoir.
Luberta Stepps Montgomery, 87, of Lenoir died Sept 17, 2013. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced by Ebony Funeral Services of Lenoir.
Ronald Wayne “Hard” Norman, 63, died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013. The funeral will be held at 12 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 19, in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 11 a.m.-noon at the funeral home.
Roger Dale Johnson, 65, of Hudson passed away Monday, Sept. 16, 2013.
Survivors include his wife, Shelley W. Whittington Johnson; his son William Lipscomb and his daughter Rachel Garrett.
Services for Mr. Johnson will be private.

Doris “Tiny” Virginia Walker, 79, of Blowing Rock, took her heavenly flight, Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at Blowing Rock Hospital and Extended Care Facility. She was born July 7, 1934, in Caldwell County to the late George and Bessie Dyson Walker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William Buddy Walker and Raymond Walker; and three sisters, JoAnne Watson, Georgie Walker and Sue Clark.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Those left to cherish her memories are one brother, Wayne D. Walker of Morganton; three sisters, Mrs. Lois W. Costner and Mrs. Diane W. Price, both of Lenoir, and Mrs. Judy W. Whisnant of Charlotte.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Belleview Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Boyd Coffey and Rev. John McDivitt.

Suellen Carswell Mitchum, 33, of Granite Falls went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013. She was born June 13, 1980, in Catawba County. She was the daughter of Jon Carswell of Granite Falls and the late Carolyn Russell Carswell. Ella was a member of First United Methodist Church, Granite Falls, where she worked in the nursery for several years. She was an Ophthalmic Medical Assistant for Graystone and Lens Crafters, as well as, retail sales associate for Zales Jewelry of Valley Hills Mall.
Ella had a larger-than-life personality and a smile that we will never forget. She had a giving spirit and the ability to forgive and love everyone. She brought the “Life to the Party.”
In addition to her mother she was preceded in death by one brother, Jonathon David Carswell, and her grandparents, Thad and Ruth Russell, and Ted and Pauline Ritchie.
She is survived by her husband, Wally Mitchum Jr., and one daughter, Karolyn Mariya Mitchum, of the home; two sisters, Rebekah Leigh Clark and husband Joshua of Granite Falls, and Adele Carswell Scruggs and Scott Auton of Lenoir; and nieces and nephews, Morgan Mitchum, Avery Clark, Cassidy Auton, Gaven Scruggs, Meredith Pennell, Sylas Scruggs, Brayden Auton, Isabella Mitchum and Solomon Clark.
There will be a gathering of family and friends on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, from 4 to 6 p.m. at First United Methodist Church fellowship hall, Granite Falls. The family will leave the church at 6 p.m. for a “Celebration of Life” at the Pond located at Sims Bar-B-Que from 7 to 8:30 p.m. with the Rev. Howard Fleming assisting. Her daughter, Mariya, has asked that everyone dress comfortably and in bright colors. Ella’s favorite color was purple. She spent her last moments with her best friend, Jenna Triplett, who we are pleased will be present with us during these celebrations.
