Virginia Moore Johnson, 87, of Lenoir went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Mary Black Hospital in Spartanburg, S.C. She was the widow of James Charles Johnson.
Mrs. Johnson was a native of Lenoir and a daughter of the late Claude and Zenna DeBoard Moore. She was a homemaker and a member of Central Baptist Church in Whitnel.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Sharon Johnson of Boiling Springs, S.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Joe Wood of Chesnee, S.C.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

A Memorial service will be held at a later date.

Macon Douglas Holloway, 76, of Wilmington died Thursday, April 10, 2014.
He was born Feb. 12, 1938, in Lenoir to the late Ralph J. Holloway and Mary Ashley Holloway.
Macon taught at West Lenoir Elementary School for over 30 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Melinda Varnadoe (Ron) of Surf City.
Services will be private.

Shirley Robbins Gibbs, 85, of Pinewood Plaza, Granite Falls, passed away peacefully at Kirkwood Caldwell Hospice on Thursday, April 10, 2014.
She was born Nov. 16, 1928, in Lenoir to the late Col. Roger H. Robbins and Florence Teague Robbins. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray S. Gibbs, and a sister, Sarah (Pia) Robbins.
She was a Charter member of Gateway Baptist Church in Conover and a current member of Concord Baptist Church in Granite Falls.
She retired as manager of Mann Travels in Hickory after 25 years in the travel business. After retiring from the travel business, she worked part time at Belk of Lenoir in the men’s department.
Mrs. Gibbs was a 1947 graduate of Lenoir High School. She attended Appalachian Teachers College in Boone and Carolina Business College in Charlotte. She was the secretary of the Mecklenburg County Young Republicans, serving as Republican Judge for several different precincts in Charlotte and also served as a poll worker. She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association, a charter member of the National World War II memorial in Washington, D.C., and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veteran’s auxiliary Unit Six in Hudson.
Those left to cherish her memory include a son, William David Martin and wife Beverly; a daughter, Donna Martin Linkous and husband David; and a sister, Marian R. Austin, all of Lenoir; three granddaughters, Holly, Becky and Emily; two grandsons, Doug and Barry; and five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Melissa, Andrew, Dalton and Colton.
Special thanks to Dr. Norman McDonald for all of the years he took such good care of her, to Brad Lawrence and the staff of Parkway Internal Medicine, and the staff of Kirkwood Caldwell Hospice for making her final days so peaceful.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 14, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Tom McDonald. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Hartsoe, Barry Smith, Monroe M. Teague Jr., Clyde Robbins, Andrew Ennis and Jimmy Clark.

William “Billy” Ervin Jr., 79, of Morganton, died April 8, 2014. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 14, at 2 p.m. at Shiloh AME Church. The family will receive friends 3-4 p.m. Sunday, April 13 at Ebony Funeral Services.
Marsha Monaghan Grant Brown, 69, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2014.
A celebration of Mrs. Grant’s life will be held at Sunrise Baptist Church on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at 3 p.m.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 before the service.
