Caroline Bradshaw

Caroline S. Bradshaw, 80, of Hudson passed away Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital.

Born in Watauga County, she was the daughter of the late Milton Bradshaw and Mary Kerley Bradshaw.

Miss Bradshaw worked as a secretary in a law firm and was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Maston Bradshaw, Ray Bradshaw, Rhonda Bradshaw and Perry Bradshaw; and six sisters, Wilma Jenkins, Thelma Ford, Effie Bradshaw, Shirley Dyson, Ann Barnett and Reba Holcomb.

Those left to cherish her memory are many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Whitnel cemetery. The Rev. Don Ingle will officiate.

Serving as pallbearers will be Dale Bradshaw, Gary Bradshaw, Jim Barnett, Jerry Neil Ford, Terry Bradshaw, and Carroll Randall.

Freida King

Freida “Diane” King, 55, of Lenoir passed away on Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 23, 1958, in Caldwell County, Diane was the daughter of Rabon and Ivolee King. Diane was a caregiver for many years.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her children, Derek King and wife Brandi of Granite Falls, and Dustin Darnell of Lenoir; three brothers, Darren King of Lenoir, Timmy King and wife Lisa of Hudson, and Jimmy King of Burke County; three grandchildren, Connor, Logun and Abby. She is also survived by numerous other relatives.

A private memorial service for Diane will be held at a later date.

William Martin

William Sherrill Martin, 78, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014. Born May 7, 1935, in Caldwell County, William was a son of the late William “Bill” and Blanche Wellborn Martin. He was a 20-year veteran of the United States Air Force and also retired from Bernhardt Furniture Industries.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Sue Martin of the Home; a daughter, Cindi Woods and husband Danny of Lenoir; a son, Jason Lee Martin and wife Michelle of Baton; a stepdaughter, Ginger Law and husband John of Drexel; two stepsons, Duane Smith, and Darrin Smith and wife Ellen, both of Lenoir; a sister, Ivolee McCall Martin of Morganton; two brothers, Jack Martin and Charles Martin, both of Lenoir; 23 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

A celebration of William’s life will be held on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Pastor Mark Petri, Pastor Chris Wilson and Chris Smith officiating. Interment will follow the service at the J.W. Wilson Cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lawrence McDaris

Lawrence Cecil McDaris, 79, of Granite Falls died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care after a period of declining health.

Cecil was the son of the late George Washington McDaris and Ellen Woodie McDaris. He was a longtime member, choir leader and deacon of Drowning Creek Baptist Church in Hickory. He retired from Craftwork Guild Furniture. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, having served in the Korean War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul McDaris, Dwight Triplett, and Jack Triplett; a sister, Dellie Inez McDaris; grandson, Jason Starnes; and a great-granddaughter, Angel Dellinger.

Survivors include his wife, Georgia Craig McDaris of the home; sons, Terry (Margaret) McDaris of Hickory, Jerry (Karen) McDaris of Newton, Mickey Darrell (Mary) McDaris of Granite Falls, Ricky (Melissa) McDaris of Hickory; daughters, Cynthia (Cecil) Starnes of Bethlehem, Sonya (Charlie) Phillips of Saw Mills, Revonda Kay Smith of Hickory, Regina (Jeannie Jones) McDaris of Granite Falls; grandsons, Shawn McDaris, Bryan McDaris, Darrell McDaris, Luke McDaris, Casey McDaris, Logan Jones, Willie Rominger, Cody Phillips, Zachery McDaris of the home; granddaughters, Leslie McIntosh, Melissa McDaris, Michelle Starnes, Amy Rominger, Skyler Phillips, Brandy Dellinger, Anna McDaris; step-grandsons, David Solesbee, Mickey Woodward of Newton; a brother, John McDaris; a sister, Mae Turner of Hickory; and 16 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, in the chapel at Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory with the Rev. Johnny Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with full military rites by the Catawba Valley Marine Core League.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Rennette Jones

Rennette Corpening Jones, 65, of Lenoir passed away Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at Caldwell UNC Health Care.

Mrs. Jones was born in Caldwell County to the late John Henry Dixon and Alma Corpening and was raised at the Central Orphanage in Oxford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Tonya Michelle Corpening; a brother-in-law, David R. Jones; a sister-in-law, Ossie E. Thomas; and an aunt, Glennie Helton. She was a school teacher for Valmead Elementary School for 30 years and a total of 40 years in the school system. She was a member of the First Church of God in Lenoir, where she served as a Pastor’s aid, on the usher board and helped in many areas of the church and was a secretary for the NAACP.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Donald Roe Jones of the home; her son, Reginald Jones of Lenoir; her daughter, Tonnette Banner Cheatam of Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Brenda Corpening Poteat of Spencer; two grandchildren, Tekia Bass of Durham and Bryson Harshaw of Morganton; a great-grandchild, Coy Bass of Durham; a sister-in-Law, Lola Mae Jones; nieces, Matoka Horton of Clarksville, Tenn., Nella Perez of Lenoir, Delores Wilson of Augusta, Ga., and Tonya M. Jones of Salisbury; nephews, Maurice Jones and Douglas Jones, both of Lenoir; great niece, Jameka Horton of Clarksville, Tenn.; and a host of other great-nieces and great-nephews.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the First Church of God in Lenoir with Pastor Jerome Pearson officiating. Burial will follow at the Corpening Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends and loved ones prior to the service at the church 1 p.m. until 2 p.m.

Serving as pallbearers will be Douglas Jones, Maurice Jones, Pedro Perez, Jacolby Stanley, Adam Steptoe Jr. and Lee Sigmon.

Nellie Kincaid

Nellie Mae Kincaid, 86, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Kincaid was born in Caldwell County on Sept. 1, 1927, to the late Ivey Kincaid and Pearl St. John Kincaid. She was married to Roy L. Kincaid of the residence for 63 years.

Mrs. Kincaid was a faithful member of Ambassador Baptist Church for more than 25 years.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Eugene Kincaid and Carroll Kincaid; her sisters, Colean Shell, Johnsie Holman and Evie Lee Craig; and great-grandson, Caden Crisp Chester.

Other than her husband she is survived by her son, Roy Dale Kincaid and wife Jeanie; daughter, Tammy Phillips and husband Jeff; grandchildren, Daren Kincaid, Kim Laiklam, Kelly Greene, Richard Crisp Jr., Brandy Crisp, Jacob Crisp; step-grandson, Jonathan Greene; great-grandchildren, Katelyn Kincaid, Andy Kincaid, Eli Kincaid, Laura Laiklam, Luke Laiklam, Logan Laiklam, Leah Greene, Caleb Greene, Seth Greene, Jonathan Greene, Tabitha Greene, Titus Greene, Morgan Crisp, Caleb Crisp, Elijah Chester; step-great-grandson, Nate Chester; step-great-granddaughter, Roxie Chester; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Mrs. Kincaid’s life will be held at Ambassador Baptist Church on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Robert Setzer officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Daren Kincaid, Richard Crisp Jr., Jacob Crisp, Derrick Chester, Mark Laiklam and Luke Laiklam.

The family will receive friends at Ambassador Baptist Church on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, from 6 until 7:30 p.m.

Eunice McDonald

Eunice Laura McDonald, 85, of Hickory Boulevard, Lenoir, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at Gateway Nursing Center. She was born July 10, 1928, in Butler, Tenn., to the late Jake and Emma Guy Davenport. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Mrs. McDonald was a retired nurse from Blackwelder Hospital and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her husband, James J. McDonald of the home; one son, Harold McDonald and wife Margaret of Alexandria, Va.; one daughter, Mrs. Cheryl McDonald Lee and husband Kenny of Dallas, Ga.; one sister, Sarah Helton of Conover; and two grandchildren, Jim McDonald and wife Mikki, and Joe McDonald and wife Trish, both of St. Louis, Mo.; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Dr. David B. Smith. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Joan Echard

Joan Imogene “Emma” Echard, 82, of Miller Hill Road, Lenoir, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at Gateway Nursing Center, following an extended illness. She was born Oct. 22, 1931, in Caldwell County to the late Jarvis B. Suddreth Sr. and Effie Viola Deal Suddreth Michaux. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen V. “Nettie” Echard; an infant great-granddaughter, Holly; and siblings, Jarvis Jr. “Dunnie,” William “Billy,” John Parker, Adele Branch, Josphine “Bunny” Ferguson, Katherine Gibbs, Jonelle Suddreth and infant sister, Odessa Suddreth.

Mrs. Echard graduated from Freedman High School and attended a year at N.C. A&T State University. She was a member of St. Paul AME Church and member of chancellor choir and was a church pianist. She previously was a pianist for Dula’s Chapel. She worked many years as a seamstress and retired from Dula Town Outreach Center.

Survivors include husband, Gaither Echard of the home; one son, Myron W. Echard and wife Wanda of Garner; two daughters, Muriel Echard-Salley and husband Ben of Lenoir, and LTC Dianna Echard-Danis and husband Abdurrahim “Dante´” of Fort Bragg; one sister, Lallage S. Killian of Lenoir; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at 2 p.m. at St. Paul AME Church conducted by Dr. Byron Grayson, Interim Pastor Valerie Hightower and Pastor Jimmy Norwood. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Serving as pallbearers and flower bearers will be family members.
