Joyce “Elaine” Leaird, 62, of Fox Road, Lenoir, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care – Hudson. She was born Feb. 3, 1951, in Caldwell County to Louise Stafford Taylor of Lenoir and the late Donald J. Taylor.
Ms. Leaird was a homemaker.
Survivors in addition to her mother, include one brother, R. Douglas Taylor and wife Terry of Hickory; two nepehws, Richard Douglas Taylor Jr. and Brad A. Taylor; and one niece, Ashley B. Taylor.
Services will be private.

James (Jim) Miles Carver, 72, of Granite Falls passed away on Jan. 15, 2014, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Born on Feb. 25, 1941, in Oberlin, Kan., he was the son of the late Oscar and Dorothy Lemmon Carver. Jim graduated in 1959 from Decatur County Community High School in 1959, he then joined the Army and served from 1959-1962. Jim married the love of his life, Maxine S. Carver, on Aug. 5, 1962. He served in the Sawmills Volunteer Fire Department for 20-plus years. Jim is a life member to the National Skeet Shooting Association. He was Director of Zone 4 and member of the Rules Committee. He served as Chief Referee at many skeet shoots in NC and abroad. He served 44 consecutive years as chief, assistant chief and or referee of the World Shoot in San Antonio Texas.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Jack Carver.
Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Maxine S. Carver; children, Karla C. Queen, Keith Carver, Kevin Carver and wife Tieneke; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Joe Carver.
The family are not having any formal services, but anyone who wishes to pay their respects may visit the family home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choosing.

Crystal Poarch Felder, 30, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014. The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at Hartland Baptist Church with visitation at the church from 1-2:30 p.m. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Edwin "Eddie" Robbins, formerly of Caldwell County, passed away Jan. 9, 2014, in Johnson City, Tenn. He was the son of the late Robert E. Robbins of Hudson. He is survived by his mother, Grace Robbins of Hudson; brother, Cliff Robbins of Granite Falls; and sister, Sherri Burchett of Hudson.
A graveside memorial service will be held Sunday, Jan. 19, at 3 p.m. at Harris Chapel Baptist Church in Hudson. All family and friends are invited to attend.
