Karen “Kate” Leila Barngrover-Glove, 63, of Lenoir went home with our Lord on Dec. 6, 2013.
Kate was born on Dec. 5, 1950, in Newfoundland, Canada, to the late Robert Barngrover and Vivian Morey Barngrover. In addition to her parents, Kate was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Glove, a sister, Joyce Barngrover, a brother, Brian Barngrover, and son-in-law Tommy Oxford. She is survived by her daughter, Stephenie Oxford of Lenoir; one son, Shane Glove of Rancho Cordova, Calif.; two sisters, Becky McElliot and husband Ron of Medford, Ore., and Debbie Barngrover of Dahlonega, Ga.; two brothers, Kenny Barngrover of Yuba City, Calif., and Robert Barngrover Jr. of Medford, Ore.; and grandsons Brandon Oxford and Chad Oxford of Lenoir; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Receiving for Kate will be on Tuesday, Dec. 10, from 3-7 p.m. at the home and the service will be on Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m. at St. Stephen Lutheran Church at 1406 Harper Ave., Lenoir, with Pastor Tony Bradshaw officiating.
Kate had a life full of interesting adventures that provided her many experiences. But, her most precious years were the past years spent here in North Carolina with her Grandsons. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

Floretta “Tootie” Penley Colvard, 80, of Brentwood Circle, Lenoir, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care – Lenoir. She was born Nov. 11, 1933, in Mitchell County to the late Elam and Vettie Wilson Pritchard. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Ken Pritchard, Daris Pritchard and Delmer Penley; and five sisters, Margaret Braswell, Sylvia Biggerstaff, Pauline Pyatt, Ruby Deaton and Dovie Stamey.
Mrs. Colvard was retired from Broyhill Furniture and was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth D. Colvard of the home; one son, Tim R. Colvard and wife Julia of Rutherford College; one daughter, Linda Wyke Wilson and husband Woody of Lancaster, S.C.; one brother, Damon Pritchard and wife Ruby of Crossnore; one sister, Florence Curtis of Burlington; grandchildren, Angie Clark, Chris Hill, Stacey Hill and Chase Glenn; six great-grandchildren, Lynx Cannon, Lexus Cannon, Landon Clark, Livia Clark, Lane Clark and Stacy Hill Jr.; and one great-great-grandchild, Matthew Hill.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Ron Burgett. Interment followed at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir.
The family received friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers were Chase Glenn, Chris Hill, David Penley, Eric Braswell, Lynx Cannon and Brian Clark.

Lucy Ann Dula Hood, 78, died Thursday, Dec 5, 2013. Funeral services are incomplete and will be announced by Ebony Funeral Services of Lenoir.
Betty Ozena Pope Summerlin Edmisten, 87, went to be with the Lord surrounded by her loving family on Dec. 6, 2013, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. She was born June 13, 1926, to the late John Calloway and Amelia Triplett Pope of Lenoir. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Dallas C. Summerlin and R. Cody Edmisten; a son, James Dallas Summerlin; a brother, Victor Pope; and two sisters, Verna Eve Pope and Zada Triplett Hedden, all of Lenoir.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Ann Summerlin, Aileen Edmisten Johnson and husband Marvin Johnson of Lenoir; one son, R. Shuford Edmisten and wife Wendy A. Edmisten of Flat Rock; two granddaughters, Sheila Summerlin, and Erica J. Greene and husband Kevin of Lenoir; six grandsons, Devin Summerlin, Troy L. Johnson of Lenoir, Alex S. Edmisten and wife Crystal of West Jefferson, Sgt. David A. Capps and wife Jessica of Fort Stewart, Ga., Daniel R. Moody and Aaron T. Moody of Flat Rock; eight great-grandchildren, Dallas S. Coffey, Alexis Summerlin, Abigail Phillips, Tristen Johnson, Rachel and Charlie Greene, and Lydia and Corben Edmisten.
Betty was a lifelong resident of Caldwell County and a member of First Advent Christian Church of Lenoir. She was retired from Singer Furniture Company and enjoyed life with her beloved family. She rejoiced in her life of flower gardens and letterwriting.
She will be missed by many and enjoyed loving life with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be the grandsons. Honorary pallbearers serving will be Vickie, John, David, Roy and Cleve Pope, Tom and Bill Hedden.
A celebration of life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at 3 p.m. with Pastors David Richards and Jim Lee with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir.

Barbara G. Withers Hampton, 70, passed away on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at Lenoir HealthCare. She was born in Catawba County on May 9, 1943, to the late George Withers and Bonnie Miller Withers.
Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother, friend and a faithful member of Harrisburg Baptist Church for many years. Barbara was retired from American & Efird and worked at Holiday Superette.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Herman Withers, and nephews, Douglas Withers and Ronnie Withers.
She is survived by her daughter, Dana Hampton Faust; brother, Gaither Withers and wife Mary; grandson, Andrew Kanipe; granddaughter, Amber Kanipe Glenn and husband Justin; nephews, Brian Withers, Barry Withers, Dennis Withers, Keith Withers; niece, Tina Withers; the Simmons and Chester families; and numerous other extended family members.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at Harrisburg Baptist Church on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Ted Williams, the Rev. Tony Harris, the Rev. Ed Warren and the Rev. Rodney Raby officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in the Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brian Withers, Evan Withers, Keith Withers, Austin Burdette, Chris Hatton and Michael Honeycutt.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 1:30 prior to the service.

Margaret Corpening, 98, of 2705 Playmore Beach Road, Lenoir, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at the Jack and Shirley Robbins Center in Hudson. She is the daughter of the late Finley Coffey and the late Sarah Pearson Coffey. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Walter Mc Donald Corpening; brothers, Silas, Uaford, James, Alexander, Alvie, and Samuel Coffey; sisters, Sarah Magalene Giles and Frances Nadine Coffey; and stepmother, Verdia Corpening Coffey. Her daughter, Margaret Faye Corpening, also preceded her in death.
She is survived by her children, June Rudell Corpening, William J.Corpening, Gerald Vance Corpening, Walter Alexander Corpening, Paul Allen Corpening, Jessie Parker, the Rev. Shirley Ann Kincaid, and Catherine M. Rankin; stepsister, Audrey Jordan; brother, Joe Finley Coffey; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews.
On Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, the family will receive friends at 2 p.m. with funeral immediately following at 3 p.m. at Mars Hill AME Church in Lenoir, with Dr. H.S. Williams officiating. Nellie Cox Tennant, 86, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at Gateway Nursing Center. She was born in Wilkes County on Sept. 2, 1927, to the late Bob Walsh and Lillie Cox.
She is survived by her sister, Lucille Severt of Lenoir.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
