Maxine Alice Wilson Smith, 75, of Lenoir, N.C., was eternally healed and went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, November 16, 2012, at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston Salem, N.C. Mrs. Smith was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Smith was born in Caldwell County to the late J.C. and Maggie Wilson. She was co-owner of W&S Frame Company and served as secretary and treasurer until her retirement. Mrs. Smith was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church and was very active in her church family. She served as a Sunday school teacher, member of the WMU, assistant director of Vacation Bible School for several years and also sang in the church choir for many years.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by three brothers, Ted Wilson, Basil Wilson and Baine Wilson.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Luther Smith of the home; one son, Mark Smith and his wife Tracy of Lenoir; one daughter, Robin Hamby and her husband Jimmy of Lenoir; four grandchildren, Kalee and Noah Smith, and Joshua and Jeremiah Hamby; two sisters, Hazel Harrison of Granite Falls, and Mary Munday and husband Jim of Granite Falls; one brother, Johnny Wilson and wife Dean of Granite Falls; one sister-in-law, Jo Wilson of Granite Falls.
A memorial service will be held to honor her memory at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at Union Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Sam Craven officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church.
Memorial may be made in lieu of flowers to the Union Grove Baptist Church Building Fund at 1808 Union Grove Road, Lenoir, NC 28645, or to the SECU Family House at 1970 Baldwin Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
Mr. Steve Wilson Smith, 67, of Ferguson, died Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at his home.
Funeral services were held Friday, November 16, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with the Rev. Hoss Moore and Rev. Rickie Triplett officiating. Burial with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1142 Honor Guard was in the Hawkins Family Cemetery. The family received at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home from 1 until 2 prior to the service.
Mr. Smith was born April 3, 1945, in Caldwell County to Howard and Dessie Robbins Smith. Before retiring, he worked for Meridian Automotive and was a member of Decision Independent Baptist Church in Caldwell County. Mr. Smith served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Hawkins Smith of the home; one daughter, Ginger Smith Riddle and husband Jason of Ferguson; one son, Steven Dow Smith and wife Jessica of Deep Gap; five grandchildren; two sisters, Sue Smith Marchisella of Hudson; Bunny Howell and husband Gordon of Winter Park, Fla.; six brothers, Larry Smith and wife Susan, Mack Smith and wife Patricia, Ralph Smith and wife Ann, Roger Smith, Hadward Smith and wife Charlotte, all of Lenoir, Roy Smith and wife Vera of Ferguson.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Decision Independent Baptist Church, 2978 Zack’s Fork Road, Lenoir, NC 28645.

Pastor Jerry Andy Joe Shatley, 65, passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2012, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Caldwell County on April 7, 1947, to the late Mark Shatley and Lucy Edmisten Shatley. He was married to Shelby Summerlin Shatley of the home.
Pastor Shatley served at Sand Mountain Baptist Church for more than 14 years and also worked at Broyhill’s Lenoir Furniture Corp. for more than 40 years. He loved to hunt and fish but felt his greatest accomplishment was preaching and telling others about Jesus. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Sherman, Bruce and Gordon Shatley; four infant brothers; and his sister, Emma Jean Waters.
Other than his wife, he is survived by his son, Jerry Wayne Shatley and wife Laura of Lenoir; and his daughter, Melissa Shatley Bolick and husband Eddie of Lenoir; sisters, Annie Mae Hollar, Bessie Shatley Parsons and Shirley Shatley Calloway, all of Lenoir; grandchildren, Shae Amanda Shatley, Seth Jeremiah Shatley, Justin Scott Carlton and Adam Seth Benton; and numerous other relatives.
A celebration of Pastor Shatley’s life will be held at Pisgah Baptist Church on Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at noon with Preacher Keith Edmisten, Preacher Tommy Gurley and Preacher Kenneth Shew. Interment will take place immediately following the service in the Shatley Family cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Justin Scott Carlton, Seth Jeremiah Shatley, Phillip Cloer, Robert Church, Ron Gilbert, Josh Shatley, Mark Parsons and Bryan Parsons.
The family will receive friends at Pisgah Baptist Church on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, from 6:30 until 9 p.m.

Lucille Hall Crump, 93, of Joyceton Church Street SW, Lenoir, passed away Monday, November 19, 2012, at the Shaire Center.
Born May 16, 1919, in Caldwell County. She was the daughter of the late Robert Matthew Hall and Callie Mae White Hall.
Mrs. Crump was a homemaker and a member of College Avenue Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl Dennis Crump, who passed away May 25, 1999; her daughter, Mavis Long; five sisters, Bertha Miller, Bonnie Austin, Letha Hall, Toye Fox Lois Moretz, and Faye Knight. Also preceding her are three brothers, Ernest Hall, Ivey Hall and Willard Hall.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son and daughter-in-law, Tony Earl Crump and Wendy Crump of Hudson; one brother, Stanley Hall of Hudson; five grandchildren, Travis Land, Phillip Land, Sean Crump and wife Lacey, all of Hudson, Sara Sudol and husband Nick of Indian Trail, and Anna Wilson and husband Dustin of Hudson; and four great-grandchildren, Mason Sudol, Jayden Land, Lyndsey Crump and Kenan Wilson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at 11 a.m. at College Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Brawley officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the church and at other times at the son’s Cedar Valley Road Hudson, N.C., residence.
