Richard Shoemake

Mr. Richard Clell Shoemake, 84, passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2012, at Brockford Inn Assisted Living.
Mr. Shoemake was born in Caldwell County on November 7, 1928, to the late Steward Shoemake and Ethel Greene Shoemake. He was of Baptist Faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Merle Greene, Steward Shoemake, Jr. and Doyle Shoemake.
He is survived by his sister, Helen Irene Bennett; his niece, Rita Seagle and husband Lynn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Wednesday, November 28, 2012, from 3 until 4 p.m.
A graveside service will immediately follow the visitation at Walking By Faith Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Marvin Ford and the Rev. Buster Heskett officiating.

Junie Day

Junie Lee Day, 92, of Lenoir passed away Saturday, November 24, 2012, at her residence.
She was born July 8, 1920, in Burke County and was the daughter of the late Marshall Brown and Effie Webb Brown.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, first husband Harve Edmond Austin; and second husband James Thomas Day; also a son, Thomas Edmond Austin; daughter, Jeanette Day Hardee; one grandson, Keith Edmond Kirby; two sisters, Edith Bentley and Rose Lee Whisanant; and two brothers, the Rev. Ernest Brown and Herman Brown.
Junie is survived by sons, David Day and wife Ruby of Lenoir, and Randy Day and wife Robin of Lenoir; daughters, Doris Austin Scruggs of Lenoir, Mary Austin Anderson and husband Berkley of Lenoir, and Geneva McCloud of Lenoir; sisters, Vera Mae Day of Lenoir, Evelyn Robinson of Lenoir, Mary Coffey of Morganton, Lillian Brittain of Hickory; also to cherish her memories are 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services of Mrs. Day will be held Wednesday November 28, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Miracle Church (on North Fairview Drive in Lenoir) with the Rev. Rev. Tim Sutter and the Rev. David McNeil officiating. Burial will follow at Worship Point Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 27, 2012, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Pendry’s Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Curtis, Michael Beard, Tim Austin, Jason Harris, David Allen Day and Ryan Day.

Minnie Marley

Mrs. Minnie Lue Blackburn Marley, 70, passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2012, at Valdese Hospital.
She was born in Wilkes County on December 31, 1941, to the late Percy Blackburn and Velma Clonch Blackburn. She was married to James Ray Marley for 52 years. Mrs. Marley was a member of Worship Point Baptist Church where she sang in the choir.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Agnes Marley; infant sister; and son-in-law, Wayne Weaver.
Other than her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Linda Weaver; son, Bill Marley and wife Connie; daughter, Mary Teague and husband Ray; brothers, Charlie Blackburn, Vernon Blackburn and Albert Blackburn; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one soon to be great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Mrs. Marley’s life will be held at Worship Point Baptist Church on Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Lane Hamby and Pastor Floyd Perry officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Tuesday, November 27, 2012, from 6 until 7:30 p.m.

Addie Swift

Addie Mae Proffitt Swift, 96, of Lenoir passed away Saturday, November 24, 2012, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital.
Ms. Swift was born in Watauga County to the late Noah Proffett and Bessie Mae Proffett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Maggie Marie Fox; her brother, Marvin Proffitt; her sisters, Ellie Johnson and Lyddie Proffitt; and a granddaughter, Sandra Mae Fox.
Ms. Swift was a member of North Lenoir Church of God. She was saved at the age of 16 and worshipped the Lord for 80 years.
Survivors include her son-in-law, William Carroll Fox of Lenoir; her grandchildren, William Jody Fox, Caroline Denise Fox, Jamie Brian Fox and Carol Diane Fox; 10 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at 11 a.m. in Pendry’s Chapel with the Rev. Charles Atkins and the Rev. Darrell Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, great-grandsons and friends of the family.

LaRue Cross

LaRue “Rusty” Cross, 87, of Lenoir, died Sunday, November 25, 2012, at The Shaire Center with her daughter Susan by her side.
She was born November 23, 1925, in Maryville, Tenn., to the late Lewis B. Eggers and Myrtle Goddard Eggers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill V. Cross; two brothers, Lewis B. Eggers Jr. and Hobart Eggers; and one sister, Lula Eggers Davis.
Rusty Cross was an active member of First Baptist Church of Lenoir. Rusty was a “second mother” to many young men that played football and baseball at Lenoir High School for Coach Bill Cross from 1951 to 1959. She was a caregiver for many years for her beloved husband Bill during his long illness. She enjoyed a lifetime passion for needlepoint, knitting and playing piano.  She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and loyal friend. Her sweet smile, bright blue eyes and heartwarming laugh will be greatly missed.
Survivors include one son, Benjamin “Mike” Cross and wife Cindy of Chapel Hill; one daughter, Mrs. Susan C. Floyd and husband Bob of Lenoir; four grandchildren, Tracie F. Martin, Robert “Bo” Floyd III, Will Cross and Patrick Cross; and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, November 29, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Park conducted by Dr. David B. Smith and the Rev. Fred D. Barnes.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home.

Jean Moore

Jean Rogers Moore, 78, of Lenoir passed away Sunday, November 25, 2012, at Autumn Care of Drexel.
Mrs. Moore was born in Burke County to the late John Rogers and Bertha Powell Rogers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Kelly R. Bollinger Jr.; and second husband, Clifton Hal Moore; her daughter, Janet Bollinger Houston; a son, Kelly R. Bollinger III “Tracy”; and a great-granddaughter, McKenzie Bollinger.                               
She was retired from N.C. Department of Health and Human Resources, Broughton Hospital.  he was of the Methodist faith, a member of the Caldwell County Republican Women’s Club, the Caldwell County Historical Society and the MOAA Ladies Auxiliary.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sister, Mary Alice Beane of Lenoir; her sons, Mike Bollinger (Carolyn) of Drexel and Douglas Bollinger of Lenoir; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, November 29, 2012, at 2 p.m. in Pendry’s Chapel. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m.
