Hansel McNeil

Hansel Harold McNeil, 65, of Hudson died Friday, April 26, 2013 at his residence.

Mary Heavner White, 81, of Lenoir passed away on Friday, April 26, 2013, at Caldwell Hospice. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Evans Funeral Service.

Ila Mae Bolick

Ila Mae Bolick, 96, of Lenoir passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013. Mrs. Bolick was a graduate of Hudson High School and was the last surviving member of the class of 1934. She attended Rutherford College in 1935. She also earned her nursing degree in 1969 from Catawba Valley Technical College, where she made the second-highest score in her class on the state examining board. Mrs. Bolick was a member of the Eastern Star. She taught quilting classes at Caldwell Community College and was a state licensed nursing home administrator for many years. Mrs. Bolick was a member of the First Baptist Church of Whitnel. Mrs. Bolick loved her church and was dedicated Sunday school teacher; many of these young adults are still members today. Mrs. Bolick also taught Sunday School at the Woodlawn Baptist Church of Conover. Some of Mrs. Bolick’s hobbies were that she was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed baking. Mrs. Bolick also had a weekly column called “Quilting with Mrs. B.” She also enjoyed painting and poetry.

Mrs. Bolick was preceded in death by her father, William Russell (Tobey) Swanson; her mother, Lyda Bell Prestwood Swanson; her husband, James Edward Bolick; one child, James Edward Bolick; a sister, Ruth Kincaid; and a brother, James Swanson.

Mrs. Bolick is survived by two daughters, Mary Jane Wilson and husband Buddy of Hickory, and Elisabeth Guess and husband Bob of Lenoir; two sons, Jack Bolick and wife Carol of Lenoir, and Bobby Bolick of Lenoir; grandchildren, Bobby Dale Guess, Mark Guess, Jamie Bolick, Melissa Bolick South; great-grandchildren, Nelia Mae Guess (who was named after Mrs. Bolick), Carl Guess, Gabriel Guess, Braden Guess, Casey Bolick Hawley, Caleb Bolick, Natalie South and Lauren South; sisters Martha Setzer of Lenoir, Margaret Dabrowski of Lenoir, and Merle Harris of Greenville; brothers, Furman Swanson of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and George Swanson of Fisherville, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service for Mrs. Ila Bolick will be Saturday, April 27, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Whitnel. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Stuart White and the Rev. Don Ingle will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Whitnel, P.O.
