Evelyn Robinson

Evelyn Brown Robinson, 79, of Lenoir went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, July 25, 2013, at her daughter’s residence in Maiden.

Born May 28, 1934, in Burke County, she was the daughter of the late Marshall Brown and Effie Webb Brown. 

Mrs. Robinson stood faithful in her relationship with her Savior and was a faithful member of Word in Truth Ministry.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of 53 years, William Albert Robinson, who passed away May 2006; brothers, the Rev. Ernest E. Brown and Herman Brown; and sisters, Edith Bentley, June Day and Rosalee Whisnant.  

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Gary Arnold Robinson (Lisa) of Hudson, Larry Eugene Robinson and O’Ryan Robinson, both of Lenoir; two daughters, Pamela  Robinson Mitchell (Michael) of Lenoir, and Sheila Robinson Anderson (David) of Maiden; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services honoring Evelyn’s life will be held at Word in Truth Ministry on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Bill E. Bentley officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.  

The family will receive friends at the church from 1 to 2 p.m.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mrs. Robinson’s grandsons.

Arlow Greene

Arlow Emit Greene, 92, of Middle Street, Lenoir, died Friday, July 26, 2013, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care – Lenoir. He was born Aug. 27, 1920, in Watauga County to the late James W. and Charlotte Story Greene. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Floy Bell Greene, Arleen Greene and Bell Greene Chandler; and two brothers, Paul and Joe Greene.

Mr. Greene was retired service manager for Smith Crossroads Ford and was a United States World War II Army Air Force Veteran. He was a charter member of Hudson Optimist Club with 12 years' perfect attendance. He was also a member of Mulberry Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mavis Bolick Greene of the home; brothers, Tommy, Roy, Buster and Willard Greene, all of Lenoir; and James Greene of Granite Falls; sisters, Mary Ann Clark, Thelma Chandler, Janie Braswell, Rosa Lee Rash, Patsy Richardson and Kay Connor, all of Lenoir.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 28, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Bennett Helton and the Rev. James Todd. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park with military honors.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Barbara White

Barbara Jean Kanupp White, 74, of Crest Place, Lenoir, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Ashton Park Health Care Center in Asheville. She was born Oct. 23, 1938, in Caldwell County to the late William Alanzo and Pauline McGee Kanupp. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hayden Glen White.

Mrs. White was a cosmetologist and instructor and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include one son, Harvey Lawing Jr. and wife Yvonne of Virginia; one daughter, Mrs. Lynn Weller and husband Jeff of Leicester; stepmother Nellie Kanupp of Lenoir; two brothers, Lonnie Kanupp of Lenoir and Claude Kanupp of Hickory; one sister, Vicky Isaacs and husband A.F. of Zionville; three grandchildren, Ryan Hennessee and wife Emily of Asheville, Alisha King of Virginia, and Sean Ostwalt and wife Kirsten of Statesville; great-grandchildren, Teigan Ostwalt and Levi Ostwalt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, July 28, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir.

The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the service at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home.
