Lawrence Ferguson

Lawrence “Jack” Smith Ferguson, 76, of Fallview Road, Boomer, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care – Lenoir. He was born March 9, 1937, in Wilkes County to the late Carl Chapman and Gennity Gay Fortner Ferguson.

Mr. Ferguson worked in the finishing room at both Broyhill and Bernhardt Furniture and was a member of Little Rock Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Lou Auton Ferguson of the home; two sons, Mark Lewis Ferguson and wife Sandy of Lenoir and Michael Lawrence Ferguson and wife Anndora of Ferguson; two daughters, Monica Louise Ferguson Mitchell and husband Scott of Taylorsville and Meredith Lynn Ferguson of Kannapolis; three brothers, Kenneth Ferguson and wife Jan of Lenoir, Larry Ferguson and wife Sue of Greensboro, and Terry Ferguson and wife Nancy of Moravian Falls; four sisters, Christine Ferguson Foster of North Wilkesboro, Nell Ferguson Katz of Boomer, Sue Ferguson Swanson and husband Carlton of Moravian Falls, and Janice Ferguson Earp and husband R.S of Wilkesboro; and five grandchildren, Landon Mitchell, Grant Mitchell, Cady Ferguson, Shaun Ferguson and Abbie Ferguson.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at 5:30 p.m. at Little Rock Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Robert Webb, the Rev. Doug Howell, the Rev. Brent Dula and the Rev. David Byrd. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Serving as pallbearers will be Wayne Little, Justin Katz, Gary Katz, Scott Mitchell, R.S. Earp, Rob Earp, Jason Adams and Lonnie Parsons.

Honorary pallbearer will be Randy Hendrix.

Lloyd Helton

Lloyd G. Helton, 91, of Calico Road, Lenoir, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. He was born Sept. 19, 1922, in Caldwell County to the late George and Emma Craig Helton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Steven Helton; brothers, Clarence Helton, Eugene Helton, Clyde Helton, James Helton and the Rev. Paul A. Helton; and sisters, Maudie Helton, Alma H. Woods, Luola Hartley Garrison, Lois Brown, Agusta Carpenter, Doris Helton and Sue Buckner.

Mr. Helton worked for Blue Bell and was retired from C.W.S. Fashions. He was a member of Littlejohn United Methodist Church. He was also a United States World War II Army Veteran and member of the 737 Tank Battalion.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Anna Lea Helton of the home, one son, Richard Helton and friend Martha Ellis of Apex; one daughter, Ms. Glenda Suddreth of Lenoir; one brother, David Helton and wife Hattie of Kennewick, Wash.; three grandchildren, Jeana Sanders and husband Tim, Caroline Helton and Karen Helton; and two great-grandchildren, Taylor Sanders and Alex Sanders; and special caregiver, Diane Kincaid.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at 4 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Allen Boliek. Interment will follow at Littlejohn United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
