Earl R. Hylton, 96, of Lenoir passed away Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014, at his residence.
Mr. Hylton was the son of the late Vernon Hylton and Bertha Stillwell Hylton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four brothers.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jeanette Hull Hylton; his daughters, Pam Arthur and husband Tommy of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Debbie Kritz and husband Dick of Lake Park, Fla.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the home open hours.

Jean Johnson Massingale, 64, of Bradford Street SW, Lenoir, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care. She was born July 7, 1950, in Avery County to the late Martin Van Buren and Beulah Gragg Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, James Oneil Pittman; and one sister, Ruth Lipps.
Mrs. Massingale was a Walmart greeter and was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Otis V. Massingale of the home; one brother, Douglas H. Johnson and wife Barbara of Lenoir; one sister, Elaine J. Younce and husband Bruce of Lenoir; mother-in-law, Odessa H. Massingale of Granite Falls; brother-in-law, Melvin Bobby Massingale and wife Joann of Prosperity, S.C.; and sisters-in-law, Ann Hatley and husband Larry of Hudson, and Shirley Anderson and husband Ronnie of Sumter, S.C.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Jack Moses and the Rev. Larry Miller. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. at John Johnson Family Cemetery in Crossnore.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Clidia Triplett Griffies, 75, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014, at Caldwell Hospice. She was born in Watauga County on April 15, 1939, to the late Clyde Triplett and Edna Wheeler Triplett.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Griffies; brother, Jack Triplett; and sister, Ailene Watson.
Mrs. Griffies is survived by her three daughters, Cynthia McGhee, Julie Land and husband, Chris, and Sandra Anders and husband, Edward; sister, Linda Stewart and husband, Jimmy; grandchildren, Teia Cornett and husband, Lloyd, Matthew Griffies and wife, Amber, and Ana Knight and husband, Coy; great-grandchildren, Makaylia Shai Cornett, Landon Eric Cornett, Katana Paige Cornett, Jason Thomas Griffies, Aubree Marie Griffies, and Bentley Charles Knight; and numerous other relatives.
A celebration of Mrs. Griffies' life will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, at First Baptist Church of Whitnel at 2 with Pastor Stuart White officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Landon Cornett, Matthew Griffies, Chris Land, Edward Anders, Lloyd Cornett and Coy Knight. Honorary pallbearers are Andrew Franklin and Michael Woodie.
The family will receive friend in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, from 6 until 7:30 p.m.
