Linda Phillips

Linda Marie Waters Phillips, 70, of Lenoir, died Saturday, December 1, 2012, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.  
She was born February 24, 1942, in Caldwell County to the late Grady and Grace Watson Waters. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest W. Phillips Sr.
Mrs. Phillips was retired from Lenoir Women’s Clinic as office manager, was a member of Lenoir Community Church for 47 years and was a Sunday school teacher for the 2- to 5-year-olds for 37 years. The pride and joy of her life were her grandchildren.
Survivors include one son, Ernest Todd Phillips of Hudson; one daughter, Gracie Phillips Green and husband Darren of Hickory; three brothers, Jerry Waters of Lenoir, Wayne Waters and wife Carolyn of Dallas, Texas, and Dennis Waters and friend Lyn Tharpe of Grapevine, Texas; and five grandchildren, Dalton Phillips, Chloe Phillips, Graclyn Green, Jaedyn Green and Krista Green.  
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Park conducted by Pastor Daniel McGee and Pastor Sam Crowe.

Jimmy Rector Sr.

Mr. Jimmy Rector Sr., 63, of Cedar Trail, Morganton, passed away, Friday, November 30, 2012, at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care. Funeral services for Mr. Rector, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at the United Baptist Church of Drexel. Interment will follow at the Burke Memorial Park. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m., Monday, December 3, 2012.
Memorials may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, 1715 Enon Road, Valdese, NC. Kirksey Funeral Home, Morganton, is assisting the Rector Family.

James Stamey

James Otis Stamey, 83, of Sunrise Circle, Lenoir, died Sunday, December 2, 2012, at Lutheran Home Hickory West.
He was born December 8, 1928, in Caldwell County to the late James Oliver and Johnsie Turnmire Stamey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack P. Stamey; and sister, Tobie L. Stamey.
Mr. Stamey was retired from Lenoir Mirror and was a member of Cedar Rock Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Thelma Mabe Stamey of the home; one son, James “Mickey” Stamey and wife Cindy of Lenoir; one daughter, Mrs. Diana Jensen and husband Lyle of Lenoir; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Cedar Rock Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Jim Robbins. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Serving at pallbearers will b: Arron Stamey, Shawn Stamey, Doug Jensen, Joe Jensen, Josh Stamey and Ethan Reichard.

Linda Holman

Linda Green Gragg Holman, 59, of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., formerly of Lenoir, passed away peacefully, Sunday, December 2, 2012, at her daughter’s residence in Granite Falls, surrounded by her family.
She was born December 31, 1952, in Avery County to the late Max C. and Kathleen Gragg Green. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dusty Dean Holman Sr.; infant daughter, Nancy Kathleen Gragg; two sisters, Patricia Crump and Maxine Nichols.
Mrs. Holman was a well-loved waitress at Ryan’s Steakhouse in North Myrtle Beach. She attended Barefoot Community Church in North Myrtle Beach.
Survivors include one daughter, Sherry Gragg Bruce of Granite Falls; step-sons, Jason Holman (wife Kristal) and Dusty Holman Jr., both of North Myrtle Beach, and Jackson Holman of Lenoir; step-daughter, Tameka Sisk (husband Kyle) of Lincolnton; brothers, Kenneth Dale Gragg (wife Martha) of Baton and Mike Green of Bedford, Texas; two sisters, Maggie Williams (husband Ralph) of Lenoir and Joyce Crowe (husband Monty) of Bethlehem; grandchildren, Jaylon Holman, Lillian Holman, Tyler Sisk, Indiana Sisk and Emma Sisk; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at 5 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. David Benfield, the Rev. David Gragg and Matthew Holman. Interment will be private.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Victor Sanders

Victor Rogers Sanders, 73, of 4th Avenue, Hickory, died Friday, November 30, 2012, at Frye Regional Medical Center.  
He was born May 23, 1939, in Macon County to the late Washington E. and Ida Lela Ledford Sanders. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Pearson Sanders, Mason Sanders, Grady Sanders and Charles Sanders; and sister Mary Ann Radford.  
Mr. Sanders was in the concrete construction business and a member of Rock Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include Alice Sanders, his former wife of 46 years;  two sons, Lewis Randall Sanders Sr. and wife Linda of Granite Falls, Tim Sanders Sr. and wife Rebecca of Granite Falls; two daughters, Robin Lail and husband Robert Allen of Hickory, and Linda Lail and husband Bobby of Granite Falls; one brother Wiley Sanders and wife Marie of Lenoir; one sister, Captola Stacey of Clarksville, Tenn.;  eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at 5 p.m. at Northside Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Howard Michaels and the Rev. James Drennan.
The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Sandra Wallace

Sandra Wise Wallace, 49, of Brookshire Road, Lenoir, died Sunday, December 2, 2012, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care - Hudson.
She was born October 20, 1963, in Caldwell County to Brenda Bryant Wise of Lenoir and the late Colon Wise.
Mrs. Wallace was employed by Broyhill Furniture.
Survivors in addition to her mother, include her husband, Lonnie D. Wallace of the home; two sons, Nathan Lawson and Chris Lawson, both of Lenoir; one daughter, Brianna Lawson of the home; one brother, Dwight Wise of Lenoir; sister, Sharon Wise of Lenoir; and one grandchild.
Services will be private.

Cecil Holland

Cecil Worth Holland, 98, died Sunday with his family by his side.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Union Grove Free Will Baptist Church, 1283 Union Grove Church Road, Fremont, with the Rev. John Massengill and the Rev. Richard Glosson officiating. Committal will follow in the Holland Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the church.
He is survived by two sons, Henry Holland (Gail) of Lenoir and John Holland (Ranie) of Pikeville; grandchildren, Adam Holland (Janet) of Dallas, N.C., Lori Holland Balance (Charles) of Pikeville, Jonathan Holland of Fremont; and nine great-grandchildren, John Austin Gibson, Lorissa Bailey Gibson, Caitlin Holland, Alana Grace Holland, Lilly Holland, Rachel Holland, Charles Balance, Abigail Balance and Bryson Holland.
He was a native of the Sasser Mill community of Wayne County and preceded in death by his parents, Bessie Cagle Holland and Rufus Henry Holland; his wife of 64 years, Ruby Lee Ferrell Holland (2006); a grandson, Hank Holland; and a brother, Alton Holland.
Mr. Holland was an active member of Union Grove Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school superintendent. He was also a member of Harmony Lodge # 340 A.M. & F.M. of Pikeville.
