Virginia Swink Cresson, 89, of Lynchburg, Va., passed away Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at Westminster Canterbury.
Born December 13, 1923 in Morganton, she was a daughter of the late Charles Swink and Hattie Carswell Swink. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, Max Swink, Clarence Swink and Elbert Swink.
Virginia was a retired cost analyst with Kraft Foods with 28 years of service in Memphis, Tenn., and during that time a faithful member of First Baptist Church. After moving to Lynchburg, she volunteered for 17 years at Virginia Baptist Hospital and was a longtime member of Rivermont Presbyterian Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
She leaves to cherish her memory two children, daughter Janice Cresson Cárdenas and husband Raul of Raleigh and their children, Michael Cárdenas and wife Kristin of St. Louis, Mo., Dr. Virginia Leonor Cárdenas of Raleigh, Cynthia Cárdenas Schweitzer and husband Michael of Orlando, Fla., and Dr. David Cárdenas of Columbia, S.C.; a son, Dr. David H. Cresson Jr. and wife, the Rev. Lisa Meadors Cresson, of Lynchburg and their children, Carol Christine Cresson of Lynchburg and her fiancé Scott Sowers of Washington, D.C., and David William Cresson of Charlotte; six great-grandchildren, Sarah and Samuel Cárdenas of St. Louis, Mo., Anne and Eli Schweitzer of Orlando, Fla., Isabel and Adriana Cárdenas of Raleigh; and many other relatives and friends.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Margaret Correan Watson, 83, of Hickory passed away Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at Lutheran Home Hickory West.
Born July 12, 1929, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Fredrick Webb and Callie Hice Webb. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one brother, Edgar Webb, and one sister, Barbara Webb Duckworth.
She was the beloved wife of Royal Dixon Watson and the cherished mother of daughters Olivia Watson Stanley and husband Jerry of Lenoir, Wanda Watson Yelton and husband Ray of Lenoir, Brenda Watson Greer and husband Danny of Lenoir, and son Rondal Watson of Lenoir; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren. She is survived by one brother, Roger Webb of Hickory.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Sunset Hills Cemetery with Chaplin Nancy Campbell and Chaplin Steve Butler officiating. Following the graveside service the family received friends and family at the home of Wanda Yelton, 1321 South Haven Drive, Lenoir, NC 28645.

Geraldine Bivens Cook, 73, of Granite Falls passed away Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at her residence.
Born March 26, 1939, in Burke County, she was the daughter of the late Summie Lee Bivens and Grace Franklin Bivens.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne White officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Bass-Smith Granite on Thursday, Feb. 21, from 7-8:30 p.m.

Eddie Pearson Sr.
Mr. Eddie “Bear” Larke Pearson Sr., 74, of 847 Vine Arden Road, Morganton, answered the call of the Lord on Feb. 19, 2013, while at his residence following an extended illness. Pearson was born Nov. 13, 1938. Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m. at New Hope in Christ Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1-1:55 p.m. at the church prior to the services. Ebony Funeral Services of Morganton is caring for the family.
Wayne Gordon Waters, 75, of Dallas, Texas, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013. He was born Nov. 10, 1937.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Grace and Grady Waters, and sister Linda Marie Phillips.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Carolyn Waters of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Angela Waters and fiancé Roberto Andersen of Dallas, Texas; and brothers Jerry Lee Waters of Lenoir, and Dennis Waters and partner Lyndal Tharp of Southlake, Texas.
Wayne will be missed by all who knew him for his lively personality and his adventurous soul. He was a loyal husband, father, brother and friend. He had dealt with many adversities in his life and met each challenge head on and courageously with a sharp wit and a generous sense of humor. He passed away peacefully in his sleep, probably dreaming of having a royal flush.
No services will be conducted at this time. Wayne willed his body to the study of science at the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
