Carole Fox

Carole Barnette Fox passed away peacefully on Jan. 26, 2013, in New London, Conn., surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Lenoir and grew up there. She resided in southeastern Connecticut for over 20 years but lived in many states and countries with her military family.

Carole graduated from Lenoir High School, went to nursing school in Georgia and worked in that field for many years.

Carole is survived by her husband, Wayne Carbone; daughter, Betsy Fox Hickey; grandchildren, Hailee and Jesse Hickey; mother Alice Barnette of Lenoir; sisters, Libby Foster and husband Fredrick of Lenoir, Marie Woods and husband Ray of Lenoir, Shirley Hargus and husband Larry of Granite Falls, and Susan Setzer and husband Alex of New Bern; mother-in-law Rose Carbone; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws. She is preceded in death by her father, John Barnette.

Claude Triplett

Mr. Claude Triplett, age 86, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2013.  He was born September 10, 1928 in Watauga County, NC, to the late Jones and Bettie (Triplett) Triplett.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, a son, Marty Triplett and a daughter, Grace Abernethy. 

He is survived by five children; Gail Anton and husband, Rusty of Lenoir, NC, Donna Triplett of Lenoir, NC, Jan Calloway of Forest City, Tammy Triplett of Forest City, and Rick Triplett and wife, Sarah, of Connelly Springs, NC. 

He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. 

Visitation will be held at Mackie Funeral Home, 35 Duke Street, Granite Falls, NC  28630 on Saturday, February 23, 2013 from 6 to 7 PM.  The service and burial will be private at a later day.

Alma Church

Alma Lee Hamby Church, age 96, of Boone, formerly of Lenoir, died Monday, February 18, 2013 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care – Hudson. She was born October 26, 2016 in Caldwell County to the late, Bynum and Callie Teague Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Taft Hamby, Sr. and second husband, Hardis Church; sons, Taft Hamby, Jr., Bobby Gene Hamby and Sonny Hamby; two sisters; and five brothers.

Mrs. Church was retired from Singer Furniture and a member of Lakeview Baptist Church.  

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Diane Hamby Dancy and husband J.B. of Boone; grandchildren, Roger Hamby (Loretta), Debbie Farris (Marlowe), Missy Witt (Dale), David Farthing (Kim), Bobby Hamby, Scott Hamby (Chere), Terry Hamby, Lisa Church (Alan), Jerry Hamby, Dean Myers and Randy Hamby; 16 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren;  daughters-in-law, Shelba Hamby and Dorothy Hamby; and friends, Johnny and Lola Farthing.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, February 24, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Lakeview Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Ron Burgett.  

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. prior to the services at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Lakeview Baptist Church Building Fund, 325 Shasta Lane, Lenoir, N.C. 28645.

Thomas Tierney

Mr. Thomas Edward Tierney, age 59, passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Grace Hospital in Morganton, NC. Mr. Tierney was born in Plainfield, NJ on September 5, 1953 to the late Thomas John Tierney and Joan Lynch Tierney. He attended Indiana University, and was married to Debbie Brown Tierney of the residence.

Other than his wife, he is survived by his son, Thomas Edward Tierney, Jr.; daughter, Nichole Tierney; two beautiful granddaughters, Rylie Jade and Emma Claire Tierney, who reside locally.  His brothers, Bob Tierney, Dr. William Tierney; and sister, Mary Ann Tierney Owens, are also survivors from Indianapolis, IN.

Marcella Seagle

Mrs. Marcella Drum Seagle, age 76, of Hudson, passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson.  Born April 21, 1936 in Caldwell County, Mrs. Seagle was a daughter of the late Clinton and Lula Belle Garnes Drum and the wife of the late James Ross Seagle.

Other than her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a Great-Granddaughter, Caitlyn Ann Brown.

Mrs. Seagle was retired from textiles and a member of Poovey’s Chapel Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Debbie Brown and husband Ricky; Peggy Kanupp and husband Terry; one brother, Paul Drum and wife Claudia; 4 Grandchildren, Kevin Brown and wife Kristin; Angela Waters and husband Scottie, Shannon Banks and husband Clif; Brandon Kanupp; 4 Great-Grandchildren, Caden Brown, Bella Waters, Chloe Banks and Sadie Banks.

A celebration of Mrs. Seagle’s life will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Poovey’s Chapel Baptist Church with Reverend Nicky Waters officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hibriten Baptist Church Cemetery in Hudson.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:30 until 8:00 PM at Poovey’s Chapel Baptist Church in Hudson.

Pallbearers will be:  Kevin Brown, Clint Drum, Brandon Kanupp, Kelly Drum, Jeff Drum, Clif Banks, Scottie Waters and Josh Goforth.

James White

James Marvin White, 86, of Granite Falls, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Camelot Manor.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb.23, 2013 at Clover Baptist Church at 1 p.m.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will be private.
