Lenoir, NC- Mrs. Sandra Hicks Lackey, age 65, passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro. Sandra was born in Caldwell County on March 20, 1947 to the late John Wesley Hicks and Marie Turner Hicks. She was married to James Hood of the residence. Sandra worked for several years at the Lenoir Soup Kitchen preparing meals for the homeless.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Arvil Lackey and her son, Robert Lackey.
Other than her husband, she is survived by her sister, JoAnn Wright and husband, Calvin of Lenoir; and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at Bethel Advent Christian Church on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 2:00 in the Fellowship Hall.

Mrs. Mary Sue Cannon Houston, 69, of Hickory, NC, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Frye Regional Medical Center.
Born April 04, 1943 in Caldwell County, she was the daughter of the late Ulysses Cannon and Evie Ingle Cannon Dula. She was of the Baptist faith and had worked for Interstate Foam.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Cannon, a sister, Joyce Bumgarner, and a grandson, Arron McRary.
Survivors include her husband Edward “Ned” of the home, three sons; Rodney McRary and wife Wendy of Hickory, Scott McRary and wife Robin of Granite Falls, and Jeffrey Houston of Morganton, one sister Faye Cole and husband Carlos of Georgia, one brother, Thomas Dula Jr. of Hickory, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends Monday, March 04, 2013 from 6-7:30PM at Mackie Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, March 05, 2013 at 11:00AM at Sunset Hills Cemetery with Rev. Larry Coolee officiating.

Mrs. Viola Austin McMillan Smith, age 98, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Caldwell Hospice. She was born in Caldwell County on February 19, 1915 to the late George Austin and Alice Julia Austin.
Mrs. Smith was a member of Calvary Advent Christian Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands, Lawrence M. McMillan and Rufus H. Smith; daughter, Sarah Elizabeth McMillan; brothers, Earl Austin, Lester Austin, Hubert Austin, and Ned Austin.
She is survived by her children, Douglas McMillan and wife, Joyce of Boxford, MA; Mary Alice Brown of Morganton; Wanda M. McGee and husband, Bobby of Lenoir; grandchildren, Cynthia Curley and husband, James; Michael McMillan; Pamela Drake and husband, Greg; Laura Zurosky and husband, Jeff; Kathy Quinn and husband, Tim; Mark Alexander and wife, Kathy; Celia Garr and husband, Bryan; Daniel McGee and wife, Laura; and Eric McGee and wife, Alicia; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
