Carol Jane Killian Cox, 73, of Douglasville, Ga., died Feb. 12, 2014, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.
She was born to the late Marion Butler Killian and Lola Estelle (Mize) Killian on July 6, 1940. She was preceded in death by her sister, Myra Sue Slate of Clemmons. She is survived by two sisters, Louise (Killian) Keller and Virginia Rhea (Killian) Teague.
Carol was married in 1967 and is survived by her husband of 46 years, James Russell Cox, and children, Catherine Leigh Cox Womack and Andrew Russell Cox, both of Douglasville, Ga. Along with the children, Carol is also survived by five grandchildren, Justin Ryan Womack, Kelsey Erin Womack, Lillian Grace Womack, Stephen Brady Forman and Jacob Hye Farr and one beautiful great-grandchild, Kellen Michael Womack.
Carol graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1958. She attended East Tennessee State University prior to moving to Atlanta, Ga. Carol was employed in the dental profession for a number of years and succeeded in receiving her Dental Hygienist’s license in 1964. Carol practiced dental hygiene for numerous dentists in Atlanta and Douglasville until her retirement in 2002. In her spare time she enjoyed participating in youth sports, most notably in coaching girls softball. Cooking was a passion of hers and she was an avid gardener. She further enjoyed going to the beach and watching the waves. She enjoyed hosting holiday parties at home, which allowed her to further practice her cooking skills. It can be said that anyone who was fortunate enough to be in attendance at the gatherings, when they left, they never left hungry.
There are many other accolades that could be said or used in describing her life, but one thing is sure, she enjoyed life.
In honor of her life, there will be a “Celebration of Life” service for Carol Jane on Sunday, April 6, 2014, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on Lakeside Avenue in Granite Falls. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
James Dennis Setzer, 78, went to his Heavenly Home on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at his residence. He was born in Caldwell County on June 7, 1935, to the late Clifford P. Setzer and Gladys Underdown Setzer. He was married to Pearl W. Setzer of the residence for 59 years.
Dennis was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who not only loved the Lord but he lived his life to honor that. He loved his church, Mount Zion Baptist, and over the years he has served in many different capacities, including Deacon and Sunday School teacher. Dennis was active with the Caldwell Baptist Association Disaster Relief and also was involved in local and international missions having volunteered with North Carolina Baptists and Samaritan’s Purse.
Dennis proudly served his country with the Army National Guard. In 1964 he became the owner and operator of Setzer Pool Sales, which he operated until 1977.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Sherry Lawson and husband Terry; grandsons, Jonathan Lawson and wife Heather, and Jason Lawson and wife Lindsey; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Caleb Lawson; brothers, Ward Setzer and wife Paula, and Jerry Setzer and wife Betty; and numerous relatives and friends.
A celebration of Dennis’s life will be held at Mount Zion Baptist Church on April 5, 2014, at 3 p.m. with Pastor Glen Walker and Pastor John Greene officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan and Jason Lawson; Jason, Jamie and Jerry Setzer Jr.; Bradley and Greg Woodie; and Mike Fields.
Honorary Pallbearers will be members of Dennis’s Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends at Mount Zion Baptist Church from 5 until 6:30 on Friday, April 4, 2014.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 5, 2014, 2-3 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Service. The service will follow at 3 p.m. Burial will take place after the service in the Taylorsville City Cemetery.
Bessie Joyce Lail Holland, 80, of Taylorsville died Wednesday, April 2, 2014.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 6, 2014, 1-2:45 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Service. The service will follow at 3 p.m. Burial will follow at Fellowship Advent Christian Church in Bethlehem.
