Annie Lee Perry Sherrill, 100, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Caldwell Hospice. She was born in Caldwell County on Oct. 18, 1913, to the late Charlie Perry and Julia Ervin Perry.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Ned William Sherrill; infant son, Dallas Ned Sherrill; sister, Pearl Perry Sherrill; and brother, Thomas L. Perry.
Mrs. Sherrill was a life-long member of Tabernacle Advent Christian Church and was a homemaker. She was a much-loved resident at Lenoir HealthCare for the past seven years.
She is survived by her son Eugene Ray Sherrill and wife Lucille Turnmire Sherrill; three grandchildren, Gary Sherrill and wife Mary, Lori Moody and husband Tim, and Alan Sherrill and wife Kim; five great-grandchildren, Ben Moody, William and Holly Sherrill, and Victoria and Catherine Sherrill; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Mrs. Sherrill’s life will be held at Tabernacle Advent Christian Church on Friday, April 11, 2014, at 3 p.m. with Pastor Frank Hall and Gary Sherrill officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gary Sherrill, Alan Sherrill, Tim Moody, William Sherrill, Ben Moody, and Kelvin Teeters.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3 prior to the service.

Weyburn Myers went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, April 08, 2014.
Weyburn was born June 27, 1935, and was the daughter of Floyd and Lucy Caldwell of Granite Falls, who are both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Boyce Myers. She also had a brother, Donald Caldwell, who passed away in 1981.
Weyburn had been very active at Concord Baptist Church serving in many capacities. She began working with the 4- and 5-year-olds, 6- to 8-year-olds, and then served as Youth Director for 21 years. She was also the Director of the Young Adults for 19 years.
She was employed by Kayser-Roth Hosiery for 12 years as secretary to the manager and controller. She was later employed by Drillers Service as secretary to the President, Jack Faw, for 25 years.
Her husband, Boyce Myers, was an educator and served in the Caldwell County School System in Granite Falls for 30 years. He worked very diligently at Concord Baptist Church teaching 12- to 14-year-olds and then High School seniors for a period of 30 years.
Her latest accomplishment was working with her son, Jeff Myers, at Myers Travels. Since 1988, they have provided trips for many people and many Bible cruises with clients from all over the United States.
The funeral will be at Concord Baptist Church, Granite Falls, on Saturday, April 12, 2014, with Pastor Tom McDonald, Dr. Vince Hefner, and Dr. Johnny Hunt officiating. Memorials may be made to Concord Baptist Church Building Fund, 74 Falls Ave., Granite Falls, NC 28630. The family and friends will receive two hours prior to the service from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. The service will be at 3 p.m. Music will be provided by Terry Crouse and Betsy McDonald.

Eugene Purcell Jr.
The Rev. Eugene George Purcell Jr., 92, of Lenoir died Monday, April 7, 2014, after a long illness. He was born March 22, 1922, in Durham, the only child of the late Eugene George Purcell Sr. and Jeannetta Smith Purcell.
Rev. Purcell grew up in Erwin. He attended Duke University, where he earned bachelor of arts, bachelor of divinity and master of divinity degrees. He became an ordained Methodist minister in 1946 and served Methodist pastorates for 18 years in Burlington, Fair Bluff, Ahoskie and Pikeville. He also served two Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) pastorates: Riverside Christian Church in Grifton and Lanie’s Chapel in Kinston.
He also served on the faculty of Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College) in the Religion and Philosophy Department from 1957 to 1984. After his retirement, he served interim pastorates in Pfafftown, Charlotte, Milton, Nova Scotia, Plymouth and Elizabeth City.
Upon his retirement in 1984, the Purcell Bible Conference was established by family, colleagues, friends, students and parishioners to honor the life and ministry of Reverend Purcell. The conference, which is held annually at Barton, is a weekend event designed to provide the finest in recent biblical scholarship.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Betty Booker Purcell, and their two children, Peter Nelson Purcell and wife Valerie of Lenoir, and Betty Booker “Bebe” Purcell of Greensboro. He is also survived by four children from a previous marriage, Jetta Purcell Boyd and husband Pascal of Wilmington, Ann Purcell Rouse and husband D.C. of Raleigh, Martha Purcell Simmons and partner Carol Johnson of Hampstead, and Eugene George “Trip” Purcell III and wife Jackie of Ocean Isle Beach; 11 grandchildren, Beth DeBruyne Adams of Wilmington, Pascal “Bear” Boyd III and wife Jamie of Spartanburg, S.C., James Nelson Thompson and wife Hollyn of Wake Forest, Michael Eugene Thompson of Raleigh, Sarah Simmons Brinson and husband Dan of Hampstead, Jessie M. “Mac” Simmons and wife Jennifer of Lexington, S.C., Eugene George “Skip” Purcell IV and wife Sarah of Greensboro, Donna Elaine Purcell of Raleigh, Catherine Grace Purcell, Rebecca Jean Purcell and Elizabeth Maria Purcell, all of Lenoir; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service followed by a committal will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014, at St. James Episcopal Church in Lenoir with the Rev. Michael Cogsdale and the Rev. Deacon Melissa Eggers officiating. A reception will follow in the Hogan Room at the church, where the family will greet friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to St. James Episcopal Church, 806 College Ave., Lenoir, NC 28645, or the Purcell Bible Conference at Barton College, Wilson, N.C.

A memorial celebration in honor of Ray Walter Shell, 54, who died March 31, 2014, will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Veterans Park, 5256 Waterworks Road, Granite Falls. The celebration is private, but all family and friends are welcome.
Irene Lucille Sain, 87, of Lenoir passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Frye Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Sain was born in Caldwell County to the late Nin Day. She was a homemaker and a member of Open Door Baptist Church in Hickory.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harrison Day and Otis Bell; two sisters, Blanche Watson and Beulah Barnett; and a grandson, Joe Young.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Dixie Young of Granite Falls, and Viola Young and husband Wayne of Lenoir; her brother, Lawrence Day of Morganton; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Friday, April 11, 2014, at 2 p.m. in Pendry’s Chapel with the Rev. Darrell Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jeremy Jones, Marshall Green, Tim Powell, Bruce Young, Wayne Watson and Keith Young.

Doris Earp Wike Jenkins, 93, of Taylorsville died Wednesday, April 9, 2014.
The family will receive friends Friday, April 11, 2014, 1:30-2:45 p.m. at East Taylorsville Baptist Church. The service will follow at 3 p.m. Burial will take place at Taylorsville City Cemetery.
