Charles Michael Roark, 55, of Ridge Street, Hudson, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at the residence. He was born Sept. 30, 1958, in Watauga County to the late Jewel E. and Dessie Trivette Roark. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Timothy M. Roark; a sister, Linda Gail Borror; and two grandchildren.
Mr. Roark was employed with Kincaid Furniture.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Paula Hodge Roark of the home; two sons, Micheal Shaun Roark and wife Andrea of Lenoir, and Timothy Joe Roark of the home; one brother, Jewel Elwood Roark of Sawmills; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Marilyn Boughman. Interment will follow at Roark Family Cemetery in Ashe County at 2 p.m.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Kaleb Phillips, Timothy Haskett, Michael Wilson, Jeffrey Wilson, Nathan Cook and Damien Ryan.

Rebecca Cannon Sigmon, 71, of Hudson passed away Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013.
Born March 3, 1942, in Caldwell County, she was the daughter of the late William Pinkney Cannon and Emaline Smith Cannon. In addition to being a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Claremont and retired from Caldwell County Schools after 28 years of service. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Ray Cannon, James “Jim” Cannon and Lester “Bud” Cannon and sisters Sadie Lail and Verna Beane.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 50 years, J. Hal Sigmon of Hudson; daughters, Renee Sigmon Kittrell of Corapeake and Michelle Sigmon of Charlotte; sons-in-law John Taylor Kittrell and Craig Jones; four grandsons, John Sigmon Kittrell, Craig Jones Jr., Andrew Jones and Christopher Jones; one granddaughter, Kathryn Kittrell; brothers Clarence “Jack” Cannon, Ivey Cannon, and Phillip Cannon; sisters, Edith “Bill” Lail, Effie Dishman and Anna Lea Duncan; brother-in-law Joe Fulbright and sister-in-law Vicky Lineberger; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Joe Fulbright Jr., Jerry Fulbright, Walter Fulbright, Bobby Lail, Victor Lineberger, and Jerry Stikeleather.
The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 p.m. prior to the Funeral Worship Service at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 5759 Bolick Road, Claremont, NC 28610. The Rev. W.E. Duey will officiate the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund in memory of Rebecca.

Willie Howard Taylor, 75, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday Oct. 9, 2013, at Carolina Medical Center, Charlotte. Born Oct. 5, 1938, he was the son of the late Glenn and Ida Mae Taylor. He was retired from Hammary Manufacturing, where he worked in the shipping department. Although Mr. Taylor did not have a lot of formal education, he had a “PhD in common sense.”
He is preceded in death by both parents; one stepson, Michael Witherspoon; three brothers, Ervin, Melvin, and Glenn Taylor Jr.; and one sister, Maurine Younce
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Willa “Mick” Witherspoon Taylor of the home; one daughter, Laura and husband Robert Kirby of Granite Falls; three sons, Darrell Taylor, Eddie Taylor, Robbie and wife Tracy Taylor, all of Hudson; two brothers, Dewey and wife Margie Taylor of Hudson, and Bobby and wife Elaine Taylor of Morganton; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive family and friends Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at Poovey’s Chapel Baptist Church off Pine Mountain Road, Hudson, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 3:30 p.m. in the church with the Rev. Nicky Waters and the Rev. Dan Green officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
