Jesus came for our mother, Clennis D. Hamby, 83, of Trivette Place, Lenoir, Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints. Psalms 116:15.
She was born March 14, 1930, in Haywood County to the late Samuel W. and Florence Hall Hicks. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Albert Hamby, three brothers and one sister.
Mrs. Hamby was a homemaker and a member of Grandin Baptist Church.
Survivors include five sons, Steve Hamby and wife Patsy and Randy Hamby and wife Beverly, both of Boomer, Keith Hamby and wife Deidre of Hickory, Randall Hamby and wife Sue and Allen Hamby and wife Tammy, both of Lenoir; four daughters, Evelyn Hamby, Dale Hamby, Kim Whaley and husband Steve and Linda Bentley and husband Barry, all of Lenoir; five sisters, Eulayla Hamby of Ferguson, Lois Bryant and Mavis Haigler, both of Lenoir, Barbara Graybell of Boomer and Arlene Hicks of Wilkesboro; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Grandin Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Jack Lewis. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home.

John Edsel Trivette, 82, of Drexel died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at the Free Spirit Baptist Church. The family will receive friends an hour prior to services.
John M. Keasey of Lenoir died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, at Gateway Nursing Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Greer-McElveen Funeral Home and Crematory.
Zachary Michael Boozer, 21, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013.
A funeral service will be held in Pendry’s Chapel Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Laurel Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m.
