Howard “Joe” John Lindsay, 84, of Taylorsville died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 3 p.m. in the Bass-Smith Chapel. Burial will follow in the Brookford Cemetery. The family will receive 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10.
Stanley “Joe” Earl Fox, 82, of Cornelius died Sept. 7, 2013, at the Liberty Lane Hospice House in Salisbury. He was born on Feb. 15, 1931, in Caldwell County to the late Troy and Farrie Fox. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and worked as a surveyor for Duke Energy.
Survivors include his wife, Pat; son, Ty and wife Tammy of Myrtle Beach; daughters, Terri Fox and husband Bill Gepson of Mooresville, and Trisha Bryant and husband Terry of Troutman; siblings, Jack Fox and Phyllis Andrews; and one grandchild, Haleigh Bryant, and one great-grandchild, Ethan Colt Weinberg.
Memorials may be made to the VA Medical Center for their hospice services, 1601 Brenner Ave., Salisbury, NC 28144.
A memorial service will be held at 2 Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at First Baptist Church in Cornelius with the Rev. Roger Head officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

June A. Kirby Turner, 80, of Cody Place, Lenoir, died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care. She was born June 28, 1933, in Caldwell County to the late Russell and Kate Keller Kirby.
Mrs. Turner was the last of seven children to pass away.
Mrs. Turner retired from Singer Furniture Company and attended Lovelady Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, R.L. Turner of the home; one son, Travis White of Granite Falls; two daughters, Candis Robbins and husband Franklin of Granite Falls, and Robin Turner of Virginia; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Destie Iowa Bare McGuire, 92, of Calico Road, Lenoir, and a native and former resident of Todd, passed away Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at her home. Born May 18, 1921, she was a daughter of Freeland and Neuress Bare. Mrs. McGuire and her late husband were members of Blackburn Chapel United Methodist Church in Todd. She was a housewife and homemaker.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Packard and husband Jim of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Betsy Ward and husband John of Lenoir; eight grandchildren, John, Jane and James Packard, Buddy, Matthew and John Baker, and Gregory and Blair Bryant; two great-grandchildren, Tucker and McKalia Bryant; and a half-sister, Odie Greene and husband Mack of Elkton, Md.
She was preceded in death by her husband, H.R. McGuire Jr.; daughter, Shirley Bryant; two brothers, Arlie and Archie Bare; sister, Janettie Bare Goodman; and a half-brother, Bruce Little.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1 until 2 o’clock, prior to services, at Austin & Barnes.
Burial will follow in the Howell Cemetery in Todd.

Elizabeth Clarke Martin, 69, of Raleigh, formerly of Lenoir, passed away Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at Wake County Hospice in Raleigh.

David Wayne Bolick, 54, of Granite Falls died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013. Funeral services are Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel. Family visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
William “Lil Bill” Paul Berry, 27, of Hollywood Ridge Road, Lenoir, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013. He was born Nov. 2, 1985, in Burke County to William “Bill” Berry of Lenoir and Carolyn Wilcox Berry of Wilkes. Mr. Berry was preceded in death by two grandmothers, and one uncle, Darrell Berry.
Mr. Berry was a construction worker and was of the Baptist faith. He was the “Bestest Daddy in the whole wide world.”
Survivors in addition to his parents include his wife, Missy Berry of the home; two daughters, MaKaylee Dawn Berry and Cheyenne Williams, both of the home; one sister, Melissa Dawn Townsend and husband Markie of Lenoir; his mother’s fiancé, Terry Hamby of Wilkes; two grandfathers, Paul Wilcox of Holden Beach and Terry Whisnant of Lenoir; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Brian Gragg. Interment will follow in the family cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Gragg, Robert Netherton, Adam Berry, Dylan Berry, Brandon Glenn and Josh Webster.
Honorary pallbearers will be Markie Townsend, David “Smurf” Glenn, Eustolio “Pedro” Reyes, Edward Mast, Jerry Wilcox and Nathan Berry.

Gene Jenkins, 72, formerly of Lenoir, passed away at his home in Summerfield, Fla., on Aug. 28, following a lenghty illness. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda, and his mother and stepfather, Elsie and Roy Holman.
Survivors include his son Jeffrey and his wife Ashley, granddaughters Bailey, Rylie, and Avery Jenkins; stepdaughters Michelle Hall, Nicole Lewis and husband Andy, and stepgrandsons Luke and Logan Lewis. A private memorial was held for family and friends.
Miss Mattie Estelle Hurst, 78, of Rutherford College passed away on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at Mission Memorial Hospital, Asheville, following a period of declining health.
Mattie was born on July 22, 1935, in Burke County to the late John Jefferson and Laura Setzer Hurst. She was a member of Baton United Methodist Church. Miss Hurst retired from Alba Waldensian and was co owner of Hurst Flowers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Lorena Mandel, Mary Ruby Hurst and Lottie Lee Hurst, and one brother, Charles Jefferson Hurst Sr.
Survivors include her brother, David Calaway Hurst of Valdese; niece, Deborah Hurst Thompson and husband David of Valdese; nephew, Charles Jefferson "CJ" Hurst Jr. and wife Rita of Glen Alpine; great nephews John Jefferson "JJ" Hurst of Glen Alpine, and David Andrew "Andy" Thompson of Columbus, Ohio; and great-nieces Laura Deal of Valdese and Bethany Marie Thompson of Valdese. Also surviving are three great-great nieces and nephews and many special friends.
A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at 4 p.m. at Baton United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at Baton United Methodist Church followed by a Memorial Service at 5:30 p.m., officiated by the Rev. Allen Boliek, the Rev. Robert Gober, and the Rev. Dr. Avery Owenby.
