Colon Eugene Bean passed away on Sept. 10 after a lengthy battle with several health issues. He was born in Caldwell County on June 26, 1940.
A celebration of Colon’s life will be held on Sept. 19 at 1 p.m. at the Hard and Flossie Clark Family Park in Collettsville.
Colon was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Lenoir. Anyone wishing to make a memorial may do so to the church.

Elmer Lee Moretz, 84, of Lenoir passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at Gateway Nursing Home.
Mr. Moretz was born in Watauga County to the late Wade H. Moretz and Venie Greene Moretz. He was retired from the furniture industry and he was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Joyceton Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy JoAnn Jones Moretz; a son, Thomas Wade Moretz; his brothers, Eston, Rodney and Lawrence Moretz; and two sisters, Ella Mae Fletcher and Lena Belle Cullers.
Survivors include his son, Gary Moretz of Lenoir; a grandson, Adam Thomas Moretz of Kernersville; and his mother, Teresa and husband Bernie and sister, Morgan Ann; his sisters, Pauline Moretz and husband Howard of Lexington, and Ruth Shaver and husband Robert of Independence, Va.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at 11 a.m. in Pendry’s Chapel with the Rev. Ed Ford and the Rev. Gary Moretz officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home one hour prior to the service.
Serving as pallbearers will be Sam Shaver, Bernie Smith, Gregory Van Dyke, Benny Eldreth, Allan Milligan and Don Hall. Honorary pallbearers will be the nephews of Mr. Moretz.
The family respectfully requests that memorials be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood St. NW, Lenoir, NC 28645. Flowers will be accepted.
