Flossie Mae Lindsey
Flossie Mae Jane Gibbs Lindsey, 90, of Lenoir died Friday, March 8, 2013. Service arrangements are incomplete. Ebony Funeral Services of Lenoir is caring for the family.
Harry Lee Curtis, 92, of Lenoir passed away Friday, March 8, 2013, at his home. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Evans Funeral Service & Crematory of Lenoir.
Shirley Lorraine Furr Hall, 63, of Hickory passed away on Friday, March 8, 2013, at the Brian Center in Hickory.
Born July 10, 1949, in Caldwell County, Shirley was a daughter of Hattie Jane Fox Furr and the late Jay William Furr. She was a member of the Lenoir Pentecostal Church where she played the organ for many years. She had a love for music and enjoyed working on crafts. She will be remembered by her friends and family for having a heart of gold.
In addition to her mother, Shirley is survived by two daughters, Ashley Young of Sugar Grove, and Michelle Johnson and husband Will of Hillsborough; a son, Donald Hall Jr. and wife Samantha of Glen Alpine; two sisters, Sandra Whitt of Baton and Pat Greer of Setzer’s Creek; Shirley is also survived by seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and numerous other relatives.
A memorial service celebrating Shirley’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 12, at 2 p.m. at the Lenoir Pentecostal Church with Pastor Tim Elliott officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Zola Gertrude Punch Mathis, 98, of Lenoir passed away in the Robbins Center of Caldwell Hospice House on Friday night, March 8, 2013. She was born in Catawba County on June 6, 1914, to the late William Cleveland and Mittie Adline (Stafford) Punch and had been a member of New Vision Baptist Fellowship in Grace Chapel. Zola worked in textiles as a winder. Besides her parents, those preceding Mrs. Mathis in death are her husband, Albert E. Mathis; one daughter, Betty Jo Robbins; two sons, Jerry and Bruce Mathis; one granddaughter, Cindy Mathis, and one brother, James Punch and wife Ethel. Those remaining to cherish her memories are one son, Glen Burns, and one daughter, Diane Roberts. Grandchildren include Vicki Icard and husband Phil, Jimmy Robbins and wife Theresa, Becky Robbins, Chris Roberts, Tracy Roberts, Gary Burns, Jerry Mathis, and DeeDee Mathis, Joan Bastian and husband Sam; Johnny Mathis and wife Stephanie. Ten great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. She is also survived by Midgie Keller Mathis, Larry Roberts, Brenda Daniels, Geneva Burns and several nieces and nephews. The family of Mrs. Mathis will receive friends on Tuesday, March 12, at 1 p.m. at New Vision Baptist Fellowship in Granite Falls with funeral services beginning at 2 p.m. with Pastor Charles Murrell officiating. Burial will follow at Dudley Shoals Baptist Church Cemetery in Granite Falls. Arrangements entrusted to Alexander Funeral & Cremation Service.
William Alfred Johnson, 86, of Hickory passed away Friday, March 8, 2013, at Palliative Care Center and Hospice of Catawba Valley.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Mackie’s Chapel. The family will receive friends from noon-1 p.m. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Hickory.
