Opinion: Letters to the Editor

May. 24, 2015 @ 01:57 AM

Letter: Too many in jail for too little reason

My reason for sending you this letter is because I feel that that taxpayers of Caldwell County should know really where their money is going, such as how Caldwell Detention Center has other inmates such as myself housed in Ashe, Alexander county jails.

May. 16, 2015 @ 04:29 PM

Letter: A day of remembrance

Memorial Day will be observed on May 25. It’s a good day to exhibit peace and unity as we pause on this day to remember and give honor to the veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice, and to their comrades who fought by their sides, and to the families who waited for their return!

May. 16, 2015 @ 04:27 PM

Letter: Officer left me in a bad situation

I was recently stopped by Hudson police for a minor offense I was not aware of. My license plate was taken and I was left stranded.

Letter: Community food drive successful

This is an open letter of gratitude to our community! We congratulate you for your food drive efforts to benefit Yokefellow and the Lenoir Soup Kitchen as part of the national Mail Carriers food drive on May 9.

Letter: Obama must defend Christians

Where is Obama’s concern about the attacks on Christians in the Middle East; the slaughter of 150 students in Kenya simply because they are Christians; the beheading of 21 Coptic Christians; or the rhetoric from the left chastising Christians for following a set of beliefs?

Apr. 26, 2015 @ 01:42 AM

Letter: Show community pride

As someone who has had the privilege of living in this very special area for a short time, I am continually impressed; not only by the beauty around us, but also by the friendliness and hard work ethic of those who live here.

Apr. 26, 2015 @ 01:36 AM

Letter: What is Meadows' alternative?

Would he have another war in the Middle East? Will he serve, or leave it to young men and women, as was done the last two wars there?

Apr. 26, 2015 @ 01:35 AM

Letter: Thieves rob even the dead

My husband is buried at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. It seems that every time I place a decoration on my husband’s grave, it ends up missing.

Apr. 20, 2015 @ 08:46 AM

Letter: Raving? Not really

The atheists I know are calm, thoughtful, rational human beings.

Apr. 20, 2015 @ 08:45 AM

Letter: Danger on the Internet

I am an experienced Internet user but too trusting. I allowed both my email address and phone number to be listed on Facebook.

Apr. 20, 2015 @ 08:44 AM

Letter: Hold the politicians accountable

Ernest Hemingway once said “the best way to cure all the ills of the world is to declare open season on humans three days a month.”

Sounds like a plan to me.

Apr. 07, 2015 @ 04:57 PM

Letter: Theater could revive downtown Lenoir

It seems a shame that Lenoir can’t hold on to something as timeless as a movie theater.

Apr. 07, 2015 @ 04:56 PM

Letter: Sexual assault awareness month

Many people don’t know this but April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and what better way to put a stop to this kind of thing than to take a stand and speak out.

Apr. 07, 2015 @ 04:54 PM

Letter: Thank you, Lee Carol

I recently learned that Caldwell County will be losing one of its most valuable assets as Lee Carol Giduz resigns from her post as Executive Director of the Caldwell Arts Council to become ED for the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum.

Apr. 07, 2015 @ 04:53 PM

Letter: An open letter

I challenge you to help disadvantaged veterans with children living in this area. They need your help!

Apr. 07, 2015 @ 04:52 PM

Letter: Immigration numbers

Looking ahead, from 2014 to 2060 whites are projected to decline in absolute terms by 8.2 percent, by 23.4 percent among children. Hispanics and Asians will increase 114.8 percent and 129.1 respectively, blacks 42 percent. What does this portend?

Apr. 07, 2015 @ 04:50 PM

Letter: It's a mad, mad, mad world

This world, at least most of it, is insane, crazy and schizo.

Apr. 07, 2015 @ 04:48 PM

Letter: Think of the children

Why does our society allow people to continue having children when the parents have no intention of supporting these children ever?

Apr. 07, 2015 @ 04:48 PM

Letter: Friendships made through Unifour Senior Games

Jean Glass from Granite Falls and Rachel Church from Lenoir first met in 2006 while competing against each other in a Unifour Senior Games basketball game. Since that meeting, they have planned, registered and traveled together for participation in the Unifour Senior Games.

Apr. 07, 2015 @ 04:46 PM

Letter: Meadows honors Schlafly?

Given the number of women who must have voted for this congressional representative (Mark Meadows), I have to wonder if they ever bothered to plumb his soul or study his politics beforehand.

Mar. 08, 2015 @ 04:34 AM

Letter: A newcomer's story

As a new resident of Lenoir, it took me several weeks to find my way around. A visit to the Senior Citizens Center has surely been the best investment in time I have made.

Mar. 06, 2015 @ 02:36 PM

Letter: We are not promised tomorrow

Many people think they have their whole lives to tell their families and friends that they love them or to make amends with someone they have wronged in the past.

Feb. 15, 2015 @ 06:17 AM

Letter: Let us know what you are doing

If people are working together to make your community a better place to live, I would love to hear about your efforts.

Feb. 15, 2015 @ 06:16 AM

Letter: Thanks for job well done

I would like to commend reporter Lex Menz for her entertaining and informative articles.

Feb. 15, 2015 @ 06:15 AM

Letter: Superintendent's reaction disappointing

In his customary style, he continues to portray Caldwell County Schools as "victims" of a  plot by the state General Assembly.
