Opinion: Letters to the Editor

Aug. 23, 2015 @ 01:45 AM

Letter: All around Google needs to be cleaned up

In reading Sunday's editorial about Google's plan for a taller building, who cares? It can't be any uglier than the buildings already built.

Letter: Troubling times, troubling candidate

Hillary Clinton's prominence as a presidential candidate is deeply troubling for what it says about America.

Letter: Inmate seeks daughter he never met

I have been searching for 24 years for my daughter. I have reason to believe somebody in your reading audience knows her, or knows of her.

Aug. 16, 2015 @ 01:13 AM

Letter: Fox News, immigration and Donald Trump

The owner of Fox News, Rupert Murdoch, and his CEO, Roger Ailes, are eager to reward illegal entry into the United States with a “path to citizenship.” Murdoch is especially passionate on this.

Letter: Share our strength

While some kids are trying to figure out what to pack for camp, other kids are trying to figure out where they are going to get their next meal. The National Summer Meals Program helps kids get the nourishment they need in the summer. When it works, it’s a lifeline for kids in need.

Letter: Love loses, confusion wins

For thousands of years, people were able to determine the sex of their babies with only a quick glance at its plumbing. However, now it is much more complicated.

Aug. 21, 2015 @ 11:20 AM

Letter: Floyd, Dana should have been reappointed

As usual, when I write a letter to the editor, I am upset about something! Nothing has changed, I am very upset about some stupid decision that was made concerning the Caldwell County Economic Development Commission.

Aug. 07, 2015 @ 01:44 AM

Letter: Purple Heart Day

On this day in 1782, Gen. George Washington, commander of the Continental Army, created The Badge of Merit.

Aug. 06, 2015 @ 12:49 PM

Letter: Great observations of 'ladies club'

I failed to read Brent Tomberlin’s column “Hanging out at the ‘Young Ladies Club’” on July 23, assuming it concerned some young women who were performing some charitable works in a very dignified manner. One of the “young ladies” visited us the next morning and told us about it.

Aug. 06, 2015 @ 12:48 PM

Letter: Rainbow

My grandson likes to walk in a hard rain.

Aug. 06, 2015 @ 12:47 PM

Letter: Losing more freedoms

As an adult I moved to the South, and here you could drive a moped (or scooter) that is under 49cc displacement on the road without a license, registration, tags, plates or insurance. Now this capability is just a memory as social do-gooders have dropped the hammer on this freedom.

Aug. 06, 2015 @ 12:46 PM

Letter: In God we trust

I wanted to express my gratitude to the county commissioners for allowing the words “IN GOD WE TRUST” to be placed on the two county buildings in Lenoir.

Aug. 06, 2015 @ 12:45 PM

Letter: This is a nation of laws

There is no sin at law. It is not a part of our Declaration or Constitution. Our founders were aware how divisive were religious zealots of every stripe.

Aug. 06, 2015 @ 12:44 PM

Letter: Thanks to a good Samaritan

I was stranded and I didn’t know what I was going to do.

Aug. 06, 2015 @ 12:42 PM

Letter: Saying it doesn't make it so

Have we all lost our minds? Based on recent news events, how could anyone think otherwise? Yet, just because politicians or the News Media say something is so, doesn’t make it so.

Letter: Immigration and multiculturalism predictions

Perhaps I was insufficiently concrete in making my case in the “hodgepodge of folks” letter. Here, then, is a rock-solid, fact-based prediction about multicultural America’s future.

Jul. 04, 2015 @ 05:19 PM

Letter: Thanks to all who helped

Five years ago, my husband and I retired to our dream home in North Carolina, a state he’d always loved on his business travels. Now, five years later, I find myself a widow in Kings Creek. I wanted to publicly thank the people who assisted me when he passed.

Jul. 04, 2015 @ 05:18 PM

Letter: No, there aren't too many guns

I disagree with the publisher on her column “U.S. has too many guns already” (published June 28).

Jul. 04, 2015 @ 05:17 PM

Letter: Thank you to Rep. Mark Meadows

As a fellow conservative, I would like to thank Rep. Mark Meadows for voting against a party-line procedural motion on Fast Track.

Jul. 04, 2015 @ 05:15 PM

Letter: Punishment followed letter to the editor

The reason I am writing y’all is I wrote a letter about the prison and jail being cons and a rip-off. Well shortly after that I was written up for that letter by a staff member who’s bad about harrassing inmates.

Jul. 04, 2015 @ 05:14 PM

Letter: You can't undo history

In reference to the phone call you received from the woman wishing to know if Lenoir was going to dismantle and remove our “Confederate Statue,” this only goes to show the total ignorance that is coming to the forefront of our life in the South these days.

Jul. 04, 2015 @ 05:13 PM

Letter: 'Player of the week' is not POW

In reference to the headline in the sports section on June 25 “Mathewson earns POW honors,” I imagine the more than 6,000 veterans in Caldwell County and more than 800,000 in N.C. will take exception to the headline.

Jun. 28, 2015 @ 07:18 PM

Letter: From my picture window

Jun. 24, 2015 @ 04:15 PM

Letter: America welcomes immigrants of all kinds

For 150 years America’s motto read “e pluribus unum.” The president paraphrased this founding sentiment as “a hodgepodge of folks.” Tom Shuford took exception to what he called the “Elite America’s multicultural ideal,” concluding that the rapid, immigration-riven ... mishmash of cultures and peoples” will not work and the sure losers are “the interests of the White majority.”

Jun. 24, 2015 @ 04:12 PM

Letter: Stand together with forgiveness and love

The shooter in Charleston, S.C., wanted to start a race war. Let’s show him the love of Jesus as Lenoir and Caldwell County move not divided by race or who is conservative or liberal but let us be in unity telling the world we will not be divided by hatred.
