Letter: Take advantage of free mammograms
To the editor:
As Wake Forest physicians working at the McCreary Cancer Center in Medical and Radiation Oncology, we urge the women of Caldwell County to take advantage of a wonderful opportunity to get a free mammogram. This is an event sponsored by our local Belk and happens in the store's parking lot on Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Belk is bringing the BelkGives on the Go Mobile Mammography Center, a 39-foot-long, state-of-the-art, mobile breast screening center to Lenoir. The van is to increase awareness and provide free, convenient, confidential, on-site mammogram screenings. Women who are over 40, have not had a mammogram during the last 12 months and have a primary care physician are eligible. Appointments may be scheduled by calling 1-855-655-2662 (Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Additional assistance is available by calling Crystal Dula, RN, at 828-759-4960 (Monday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
The screening will be performed by licensed, female, mammography-certified technologists from Charlotte Radiology and interpreted by a board-certified radiologist who specializes in breast imaging. Confidential results of the screening will be forwarded to the patient and her physician. Follow-up studies or tests can be performed at Caldwell Memorial Hospital for local care, or any medical center of choice, as needed.
The BelkGives on the Go Mobile Mammography Center travels to cities where Belk stores are to give associates, customers and local citizens an opportunity to obtain an important and effective breast cancer screening exam for free. As your local oncologists who treat breast cancer, we are excited that Belk has taken this fight against breast cancer on the road and we urge the women of Caldwell County to make an appointment for an exam.
