Letter: Not all government is dysfunctional

To the editor:

You hear so many bad things about government in Washington and Raleigh, but I'm glad to say I've had two experiences recently with local government employees that made me feel good.

First, I'd like to commend Mr. Charles Beck, director of public works and engineering with the City of Lenoir. I had an issue with a tree and street light that was handled quickly and professionally. I want to thank him and any workers involved for their service.

Second, a problem with some stolen property was handled by several dedicated deputies with the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office. Lt. Branham, Cpl. Gilliland and Deputy Taylor spent a lot of time and effort in the recovery of the property. Although their efforts did not directly recover the property, I'm certain it would not have happened without their intervention. Sheriff Jones has at least three great employees, and I thank them very much. Also I want to thank Chief Brown for Officer Reid, who was also involved with the case.

At least our local government seems to be working correctly.
