Three teams capped perfect seasons in their respective age-group divisions during Saturday's Caldwell County Youth Football League championship games in Hudson.

Two of the games went into overtime, with the third decided in the second half during the CCYFL finals, held at South Caldwell High School's Spartan Stadium.

Winners Saturday were the South Caldwell Silver Spartans in the first-second grade division, the West Caldwell Gold Warriors in the third-fourth grade division, and the Hudson Green Hornets in the fifth-sixth grade division.

In the first-second grade championship, Austin Raynor ran for four touchdowns, including two in overtime, as the Silver Spartans beat the West Caldwell Gold Warriors 30-24 in double overtime.

Raynor had TD runs of 24 and 30 yards in the first half, then tacked on scoring runs of 8 and 8 yards in the extra periods.

Tug Helton also scored on a 25-yard run for South Caldwell, which finished the season at 8-0.

Hunter Baker and Javon Elleby each scored two touchdowns for West Caldwell (5-2-1). Elleby scored on runs of 10 and 16 yards, while Baker pulled in a 10-yard TD pass from Elleby then ran 10 yards for a score in the first OT period.

However, with the score tied 24-24 after the first OT, South Caldwell's defense came up with a big play, stopping the Gold Warriors on four plays.

In the third-fourth grade championship, Elijah Brooks ran for three touchdowns, two coming during the decisive second half, as the Gold Warriors beat the Hudson Green Hornets 18-6.

Brooks had TD runs of 45, 27 and 48 yards for West Caldwell, which finished the season with a 9-0 record.

Malachi Kirby had the lone touchdown for the Green Hornets (7-2), whose only losses this season came against the Gold warriors. Kirby scored on a 18-yard run to tie the score at 6-6 at the half.

In the fifth-sixth grade championship, two missed extra-point attempts were the difference as the Green Hornets pulled out a 13-12 overtime victory over the South Caldwell Silver Spartans.

Cameron Wright accounted for all 13 points for Hudson, which ended its season with a 9-0 record.

Wright scored on a 10-yard run in the first half to give the Green Hornets a 6-0 halftime lead, then added a 10-yard TD run and extra-point run in overtime to put Hudson ahead for good.

The Silver Spartans (7-2) managed to tie the score at 6-6 in regulation when Jenson Weaver bolted 50 yards for a TD after South Caldwell recovered a fumbled punt.

After Hudson pulled ahead in overtime on Wright's second TD run, Weaver scored again on a 10-yard run to pull the Silver Spartans within one point. But South missed a chance to tie the game again when it missed the extra point.

From what I see from reading the front page to the back page,of the LNT, there is more than enough room to put in the players names(from all age groups) that got to play or sat on the sidelines, waiting to go in and do their best to help their team.

A lot of these children never even got to go out on the field because they couldn't run as fast as the Coach's son or could not catch the football as good as the Assistant Coach's brother's son could, but they all practiced and they all were there, but they were just not "game day material",and unless their team were up 39 to -0-,they just sat on the bench, cheering their teammates on, waiting for the chance, which never came, to go out there, on the field and play as hard as they could to help their team win.

Let me tell you that I attended each game and each child, whether they were on the field or on the bench, was just as important as their teammates in playing their game.So what I would like to see is a retraction and aplogize for not mentioning ALL the players names in all age groups/WIN/LOSE/ or DRAW......It took each one of these fine little guys to make up the team, and I think the need to be mentioned as well. YES???
