Chapel of Rest hosts annual Thanksgiving Eve service
The Chapel of Rest once again will be the site of the annual Thanksgiving Eve service.
The event will take place Wednesday, Nov. 25 at 4 p.m. in the historic chapel, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The speaker for the event will be Dr. Ronald Caplette of Hickory, and music will be provided by violinist Janet Bloom.
Caplette was ordained in 1988 and holds a doctorate degree in Theology from Erskine College and Theological Seminary. He served the parish of St. Joseph in Newton from 1988-1996 and currently is affiliated with Saint Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church in Lenoir.
Caplette is active as an adjunct professor of religious studies at Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory. He also is a member of the American Theological Association, the Knights of Columbus and The Diocese of Charlotte Permanent Diaconate Association.
Bloom has served as executive director of the James C. Harper School of Performing Arts in Lenoir since its establishment in 2005, overseeing funding and renovation of the school campus at the College Avenue Baptist Church education building. During her tenure, the Harper School developed into a regionally recognized program offering music education and establishing a wind ensemble and an adult concert band.
The Chapel of Rest is located nine miles north of Lenoir on N.C. 268, adjacent to The Patterson School campus.
Any proceeds will be used for maintenance of the historic chapel.
