With a brief agenda, the Gamewell Town Council moved ahead with a streambank repair project along Lower Creek during its meeting Monday night at Gamewell Town Hall.

The project involves 325 feet along Lower Creek and is designed to protect the town’s nearby sewer lines. The town is working with officials from Caldwell County Soil and Water. The council approved requesting prices from qualified grading contractors in Caldwell and Catawba counties.

Meanwhile, the council approved a resolution in support of the Lake Rhodhiss Watershed restoration recommendations from the Western Piedmont Council of Governments. An impaired waterway according to the Environmental Protection Agency, the recommendations for Lake Rhodhiss include greater regional coordination and a reduction in point-source contaminants from wastewater treatment facilities.

On the recycling front, the September report shows 5.1 tons were recycled, up from 4.2 in August. Councilman Hunter “Pedro” Crump said he hopes a new state ordinance banning plastic containers, including soft drink bottles, from landfills will encourage greater participation in recycling.

Town Administrator Mary Carter said she has noticed an increase in the number of people requesting recycling bins.

In other business, the council discussed ongoing construction of Gamewell Park and reviewed preliminary rules for the site.
