South Caldwell's wrestling team took two out of five matches during the 10th-annual Indian Duals dual-team tournament Wednesday at St. Stephens High School in Hickory.

The Spartans (5-4 overall) beat Avery County 54-27 and East Mecklenburg 48-30 in the tournament, which drew 10 teams.

However, South also lost to Davie County 68-12, host team and Northwestern 3A-4A foe St. Stephens 48-30 and to North Iredell 49-27.

Two Spartans wrestlers -- David Crouch at 160 pounds and Devin Potter at 171 pounds -- went undefeated during the dual-team tournament, each going 5-0. Four of Crouch's wins came by pinfall, while Potter recorded three pins.

Charlie Volz, swapping between 189 and 215 pounds, went 4-1 with two pins for South, and Seth Bryland (140 pounds) was 3-1 during the tournament.

Davie County, which finished tied for second among 4A teams in the final NCMat.com poll last season, and North Iredell both went undefeated during the round-robin tournament, each going 5-0, with St. Stephens third at 5-1, just ahead of Winston-Salem Glenn (4-1).

Two other Northwestern 3A-4A teams competed in the tournament -- Alexander Central, which went 2-4, and Watauga, which was 1-4.
