Obituaries for Dec. 10, 2009
Mr. Charles Donald Harris, 75, of Hudson, died Monday, December 7, 2009, at his residence. Born December 12, 1933, in Louisville, Miss., Charles was a son of the late Dewey Harris and Charlotte Bell Harris Clark. Charles was raised in Louisville, Miss., and Ruston, La., and was Baptist by faith. He was an Army veteran, serving from 1956 to 1958. He married Ernestine Harrison on August 28, 1960. He retired from AT&T after 42 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was an intense sports enthusiast, especially college football. He was a voracious reader, an avid photographer, and a gifted sketch artist. Prior to moving to North Carolina, he coached and was very active in the Athletic Association in Smyrna, Ga. He was a member of the Hudson Optimist club, where he once served as President. He was the winner of the Optimist of the Year award. He coached Baseball and Football in the Optimist league for many years. He was a member and treasurer for the South Caldwell Athletic Booster Association and spent countless hours volunteering and supporting athletic activities at South Caldwell High School. He served on the Hudson Town Council for two terms. He loved and was very loyal to Hudson, South Caldwell High School and his family.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Ernestine Harris of the home; two daughters and sons in law, Yvonne and Tony Smith of Granite Falls, and Christy and Kevin Clarke of Boone; one son and daughter- in-law, Chuck and Joanne Harris of Medina, Minn.; one brother and sister-in-law, Donnie Wayne and Linda Clark of Jefferson City, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Sam Harris and Allyson Harris of Medina, Minn., Zachary Smith and Isaac Smith of Granite Falls, and Caitlin, Kylie and Sullivan Clarke of Boone. He is also survived by numerous great friends.
A memorial service for Mr. Harris will take place on Saturday, December 12, 2009, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service. Officiating will be the Rev. Daniel Redding.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made in Charles’ honor to the South Caldwell Athletic Boosters at 7035 Spartan Drive, Hudson, NC 28638.

William Honeycutt
Mr. William Emmett Honeycutt, 83, of Lenoir, died Tuesday, December 8, 2009, in the Palliative Carecenter and Hospice of Catawba Valley.
Born June 12, 1926, in Tazewell County, Va., he was a son of the late Adam S. and Dora Puckett Honeycutt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald C. Honeycutt and Robert S. Honeycutt; and one nephew, Donnie Honeycutt.
William was Baptist by faith and a Navy veteran, serving in WWII. He enjoyed fishing and will be remembered as a family man.
Surviving is his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Presnell Honeycutt, of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Bernita and Danny Hackney of Maryville, Tenn.; one son and daughter-in-law, William and Maxine Honeycutt of Lenoir; and two grandsons, David W. Kirby of Maryville, Tenn., and Darren E. Kirby of Tampa, Fla. He is also survived by numerous other relatives.
A celebration of Mr. Honeycutt’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, December 11, 2009, in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with the Rev. Steve Walsh and the Rev. Giles Widner officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends Friday from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Evans Funeral Service of Lenoir.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Palliative CareCenter and Hospice of Catawba Valley at 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.

Francis Greene
Francis Nora Greene, 75, of Granite Falls, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at Valdese General Hospital. She was born July 7, 1934, in Toledo, Ohio. There will be a private burial at Blue Ridge Memorial Park at a later date.
