EDGAR PENLEY

Mr. Edgar Thomas Penley of Victor Keller Lane, died Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at his home. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, in the Laurel Haven Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Goode officiating. Evans Funeral Service & Crematory of Lenoir is serving the Penley Family.

ROBERT JONES

Robert E. Jones, 76, of Redbud Place, Lenoir, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at the residence. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Greer-McElveen Funeral Home and Crematory.

JESSIE CONLEY JR.

Jessie Joe Conley, Jr., 66, of Lenoir died Thursday, November 19, 2009. The Conley family will receive friends open hours at the home. A memorial service will be held at Grandview Park Baptist Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests monetary donations to assist with funeral expenses to 2532 Old Morganton Road, Lenoir, NC 28645. Pendry's Funeral Home and Crematory is honored to be serving the Jessie Conley, Jr. family.

SHIRLEY LEDFORD

Mrs. Shirley Dillard Ledford, 69, of Hickory, N.C., went home to be with the Lord Nov. 17, 2009, after a brief illness. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and sister.

Born Feb. 25, 1940, she was the daughter of the late William Ithel and Zora Greer Dillard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen V. Ledford; brothers, Ronda and Clyde Dillard; and sister, Marie Greene.

She is survived by daughters, Beth Blanton and husband David of Hickory, N.C., Pam Nelson and husband Chancey of New Iberia, La.; and son, Jerry Nelson and wife Geraldine of Ashe, N.C.; sisters, Kaye Reid, Dorothy Hendrix and Linda Jenkins and husband Fred, all of Lenoir, N.C.; brothers Grady Dillard and wife Ann of Aurora, Ill., Claude Dillard and wife Trena of Lenoir, N.C., and James Dillard and wife Martha of North Wilkesboro, N,C,; grandchildren, Jenna Pennell and husband Steven, and Jamey Starnes, all of Hickory, N.C., Tyler, Analeigh and Gunner Nelson of New Iberia, La., and Wendy Nelson of Ashe, N.C.; step-grandchildren, Derick, Shawn, Aaron Blanton. all of Hickory; a number of nieces and nephews.

She was an active member of Gateway Baptist Church and the Tuesday Bible Study Group.

A receiving for family and friends will be held Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, from 3-5 p.m. at Mackie-High Funeral Home in Granite Falls, N.C. The funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at Gateway Baptist Church with the Revs. Jerome Walker and Randall Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory, N.C.

Serving as pallbearers are Dave Nelson, Eric Jenkins, Lonnie Dillard, Dwayne Beard, Morgan Blanton and Jerry Frye.

Flowers are greatly appreciated, but donations also can be made to the American Lung Association, P.O. Box 27985, Raleigh, NC 27611.

HARVEY CROWDER

Mr. Harvey Drew Crowder, 71, of South Hill, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy J Crowder; and is survived by a daughter, Betty Drew Crowder Boham (Ken) of Lenoir N.C.; and a son, David Lee Crowder (Mary Jane) of Graham N.C. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Stephen Boham, Chelsea Boham and James Crowder; and three brothers, Charles Crowder of Henderson N.C., Samuel Crowder of Whaleyville, Va., and William H. "T-Bo" Crowder of South Hill.

Mr. Crowder was a retired manager with Burlington Industries & VQC in South Hill, a former officer with the South Hill Police Department, a member of Ephesus Baptist Church, a member of the American Legion Post 79 of South Hill, the South Hill Moose Lodge and a charter member of Southside Rescue Squad.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21 at Farrar Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:30-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
