Obituaries for Nov. 22, 2009
Margaret Louise Hawkins Fender, 73, passed away Saturday, November 7, 2009, at Autumn Care of Marion. She was born in Marion on June 29, 1936 to the late Everett H. and Ruby Elkins Hawkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond H. Fender; an infant sister; and two brothers, Harold D. Hawkins and William R. Hawkins.
A lifelong resident of McDowell County, she was a 1954 graduate of Glenwood High School and had worked at Roses, Southern Devices and Gaylee & Lord. She was a faithful member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church where she taught a Sunday school class and sang in the choir. Her greatest enjoyment in life was reading and singing alto on those old-time gospel hymns.
Survivors include her stepmother, Naomi "Pete" Hawkins, of Elkin; one sister, Mrs. Irene Clark and husband Roger, of Crossnore; two brothers, Herman Hawkins, of Hickory, and John Hawkins and his wife Becky of Elkin; and a large extended family comprised of nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and her beloved church family.
In keeping with Margaret's wishes, interment of her ashes and a graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. Bill Warren and the Rev. Freddie Williams at Harmony Grove Baptist Church Cemetery on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 2 p.m.
The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall immediately following the committal service.

The family offers its deepest gratitude to the entire staff of Autumn Care Nursing Home for the wonderful care that Margaret received during the last few months.

GENE MOORE
Eugene "Gene" Franklin Moore, 81, of Lenoir, passed away, November 21, 2009, at Lenoir Health Care.
Mr. Moore was born in Gaston County, to the late Floyd Moore and Nina Hipps Moore. He was retired from Singer Furniture and was a member of Central Advent Christian Church where he was a member of the church choir. Mr. Moore was a former member of the Gamewell Optimist Club and served with Gamewell Volunteer Fire Department for 43 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son, Donald Eugene Moore; one brother, John Moore; two infant brothers, Douglas and Kenneth Moore; and one sister, Debbie Moore.
Survivors include his wife, Treva Setzer Moore of the home; one brother, Trevlyn Moore and wife Susan of Granite Falls; and six sisters, Joyce Clifton, Linda Herold and husband John, Frances Pennell and husband Jack, Nelda Robbins and husband Johnny, and Dolly Whisnant, all of Lenoir, and Theresa Moore of East Bend, N.C.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at 2 p.m. in the Central Advent Christian Church with the Revs. Ed Neal and Marshall Tidwell officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bruce Richards, Jeff Richards, Chad German, John Clark, Larry Moore and Steve Hollar. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jerry and Tommy Bumgarner, Jimmy Singer, Trevlyn Moore, Herb Bumgarner, C.S. Yates and Otis Hightower.
The family requests that memorials be made in lieu of flowers to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645, or Central Advent Christian Church, 104 Willow Street NW Lenoir, NC 28645.
