Obituaries for November 11, 2009
Betty Sue Kirby Kincaid, 75, of 261 S. Herlong Avenue, passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at Unihealth of Rock Hill.
A native of Caldwell County, Mrs. Kincaid was born March 17, 1934, a daughter of the late Shuford and Vera Kirby Kincaid. She was a retired cafeteria worker at Mt. gallant School in Rock Hill, SC.
Surviving are her husband Russell Samuel Kincaid, four children Tracie Ann Shapiro of Kentucky, Terre Angela Kincaid Rhyne of Rock Hill, Jeffery Mitchell Kincaid of Simpsonville, SC and Barry Regan Kincaid of New Jersey; two brothers Herschel Kirby and Dwayne Kirby both of Lenoir; two sisters Virgie Sorrell of Asheville and Wilma Crotts of Lenoir; seven grandchildren.
Services will be private.

EDGAR PENLEY
Edgar Thomas Penley, 74, of Victor Keller Lane, Lenoir, died Monday, November 9, 2009 at the residence.
He was born Nov. 4, 1935 in Caldwell County to the late Ivey Roy and Ethel Greer Penley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Roy L. Penley.
Mr. Penley was a retired truck driver for Agregate Haulers, was of the Baptist faith and was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving in the Korean War.
Survivors include three brothers, Clarence Penley of Morganton, Kenneth Penley of Lenoir, and Robert Penley of Green Valley, Arizona; one sister, Mrs. Mary Louise Keller of Lenoir; two half-sisters, Mrs. Margie McNeal of Morganton and Mrs. Betty Raby of Lenoir.
Memorial services to be held at a later date.

RUBY McKINNEY
Ruby Thompson McKinney, 81, of Lenoir, died Monday, November 9, 2009 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care.
Mrs. McKinney was born in Elk Park, North Carolina to the late Roby Thompson and Laura Brown Thompson. She was retired from Fairfield Furniture and of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Mack McKinney; three brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include her sons, Steve McKinney and wife Lois of Lenoir, Gordon McKinney and wife Nancy of Lenoir and Marvin Chester of Albemarle; her daughters, Joyce Jackson of Lenoir, Carolyn Sumpter of Lenoir, Sharon Killian of Monroe and Teresa Reid and husband Kelly of Rockwell; brothers, Bill Thompson of Florida and Tom Thompson of Kings Creek; a sister, Virginia of Morganton; 19 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Pendry's Funeral Home with the Rev. Rodney Raby officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 1 until 2 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be Billy Agee, Chris Clonch, Shane Reese, Cody Griffin, Micheal McKinney and Steve McKinney, Jr.
The family requests that memorials be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.

OPAL KIZER
Mrs. Opal Cline Kizer, 92, of Lenoir, died Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at Shaire Center of Lenoir. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Evans Funeral Service and Crematory of Lenoir.
JOHNNY GILLESPIE
Johnny Lee Gillespie, 77, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., formerly of Hudson, died Monday, November 9, 2009 at his residence.
Mr. Gillespie was born in Tazewell, Va., to the late Erastus Blair Gillespie and Jossie Clair Gillespie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Dillard Gillespie; three brothers and four sisters.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean War. He was a supervisor for 35 years in the furniture industry.
Survivors include his daughter, Michelle Maney of Tennessee and Deborah Nichols of Mooresville. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Pendry's Funeral Home prior to the service on Thursday from noon until 1:30 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be the grandsons of Mr. Gillespie. Honorary pallbearers will be Walter Soots, Robin Carswell and Clarence Miller.
