Warriors split with Morganton
The Caldwell Warriors split a doubleheader with the Morganton Militia on Sunday afternoon at Walker Stadium in Lenoir.
Morganton claimed a 15-1 victory over Caldwell in the first game, while the Warriors bounced back to defeat the Militia 13-1 in game two.
In game one, Caldwell managed just one run on seven hits. The lone run came in the bottom of the fourth inning. Charles Noble hit a one-out single and Chad Miller followed with a walk. Taylor Luckenbill followed with an RBI single to center.
Taishi Terashima and Jaryd Wingler each had two hits for the Warriors, including a double. Blake Bays had the only other hit for Caldwell with a single. Brett Newman suffered the loss on the mound.
In game two, former Hibriten standout John Luke Curtis picked up the win in a stellar pitching performance. He threw all seven innings and allowed just one run on five hits, while striking out seven.
The Warriors combined to score 13 runs on 17 hits in the game. Bryce Bastien missed the cycle by a double. He hit a two-run triple in the third and a solo home run in the sixth. His single came in the fifth inning. Terashima added another three hits for Caldwell to raise his batting average to an incredible .481. Bryan Palsi also added three hits for Caldwell, including two doubles.
Caldwell will return to action today with a doubleheader at Mooresville beginning at 4 p.m. The Warriors will return to Walker Stadium on Friday for a doubleheader against the Carolina Freedom beginning at 2 p.m.
