Warriors outlast Patton
The West Caldwell boys’ soccer team claimed a 3-2 victory over Patton on day two of the Freedom Invitational on Tuesday in Morganton.
The goal scorers for the Warriors were Alex Hernandez, Jonathan Cruz-Nava and Grant Barnette. Hernandez scored his goal when he took a corner kick and hooked into the back of the net. Cruz-Nava and Barnette each scored on penalty kicks.
On Monday, West Caldwell suffered a 3-1 loss to Freedom. Tanner Wilson scored the lone goal on an assist from Hernandez.
The Warriors will next play on Thursday in the final round of the Freedom Invitational. The game time and opponent has not yet been determined.
SOUTH CALDWELL 3, BANDYS 2
The South Caldwell Volleyball team earned a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Bandys on Tuesday in Catawba. The scores of the games were 25-22, 18-25, 26-24, 7-25 and 15-12.
Rachel Anderson led the Spartans with 12 kills in the match. She also had seven blocks, three of which were solo blocks.
Lauren Arrington added 10 kills and five solo blocks, while Hannah Stallings had 27 assists. Rebecca Kale contributed with four kills and 10 digs.
In the junior varsity game, Bandys claimed a 2-0 victory over South Caldwell. The scores of the games were 25-16 and 28-26.
South Caldwell will take on county-rival West Caldwell today with the junior varsity game to start at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity will follow.
HIBRITEN 6, ALEXANDER CENTRAL 3
The Hibriten girls’ tennis team cruised to a 6-3 victory over Alexander Central on Tuesday in Taylorsville.
In singles action, Hibriten won five of the six matches. In the number one slot, Claire Chase defeated Megan Rader 6-0, 6-0. Ashlee Taylor won the number singles match over Jodie Cash 6-0, 6-1. Alexander Central’s Molly Gantt won the number three singles over Monica Barlow 6-3, 6-3. In the number four match, Ally Johnson defeated Abigail Keller 6-0, 6-1. Carson Banks and Bren Woods earned the final two victories for Hibriten. They each won their matches by scores of 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles action, Alexander Central won two of the three matches. Hibriten won the number two slot. Johnson teamed up with Woods to defeat Cash and Killian 8-0.
The Panthers will host Alexander Central today at 4 p.m.
