Three Lady Spartans scored in double figures to lift South Caldwell to a 60-45 victory over the visiting Patton Panthers on Friday in Sawmills.

"I was real proud of our effort tonight," South head coach Jeff Parham said. "It was good team win because everybody needed to contribute. I thought our bench came in and gave us some good minutes."

Courtney Wood scored a game-high 20 points for the Spartans, while Anna Lee Bollinger was just behind Wood with 19 points. Caleigh Raby scored 10 in the win.

With the win, South Caldwell is now 2-0 in Northwestern 3A/4A Conference play and 8-3 overall.

"That's what you play for," Parham said of second conference win of the season. "We got a big one coming up on Tuesday with Hickory, probably for first place. We'll have to shoot the ball well to have a chance against Hickory."

South Caldwell got off to a slow start, trailing 13-10 after the first quarter. Patton knocked down three triples to take the lead, two of which came from Ansley Rooks.

However, the Spartans' offense got into a rhythm in the second quarter, scoring 17 points. Raby hit two three pointers, while Bollinger hit another. South held a five-point lead until Savannah Putnam hit a three at the buzzer to cut the Spartans' lead to 27-25.

Wood took control of the game in the third quarter, scoring eight of South Caldwell's 14 points. The Spartans went into the fourth with a 41-35 advantage.

In the fourth quarter, it was Bollinger's turn to control the game. She added eight points in the final stanza, including her second three of the game. Sydney Lockhart also knocked down a three to help the Spartans pull away.

South Caldwell will hit the road on Tuesday as the Spartans travel to Hickory.
