Panthers, Spartans set for postseason

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) has released the football playoff brackets and two Caldwell County teams will play in the first round on Friday.
After Friday's win over Hickory, the Hibriten Panthers claimed the number two 3A seed out of the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference. The Panthers (10-1 overall, 6-1 NW 3A/4A) received the No. 5 overall seed in the 3A bracket and they will host No. 12 Patton (7-4, 3-4 NW 3A/4A) in the first round.
Hibriten and Patton most recently played on November 1 in Lenoir. Hibriten won that game 21-13. The winner will play either No. 4 Pisgah or No. 13 Hickory.
The South Caldwell Spartans have qualified for the 4A state playoffs. The Spartans fell to Watauga 22-21 on Friday, giving Watauga the number one 4A seed out of the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference. With the loss, South Caldwell (5-6 overall, 3-4 NW 3A/4A) received the No. 15 seed in the 4A bracket and they will travel to Greensboro to take on No. 2 Dudley (10-0 overall, 5-0 All-Metro Conference). The winner will take on either No. 7 T.C. Roberson or No. 10 North Davidson.
The N.C. high school football playoffs will kick off on Friday.
