The Hibriten baseball team hit four home runs to claim a 12-1 victory in six innings over East Burke on Friday in Lenoir.

"This game had me concerned a little because East Burke has been winning some games," said Hibriten head coach Terry Henthorne. "I'm glad we came in with the big sticks tonight. I'm real proud of them."

AJ Watson put the Panthers up 1-0 in the bottom of the first with the first of his two home runs in the game. Hibriten extended its lead in the second with a two-run single to left by Elijah Watson. He finished the game with two hits and two RBIs.

The Cavaliers scored their lone run in the top half of the third inning. With runners on second and third, Hibriten pitcher John Curtis was called for a balk, allowing Hunter Jeffries to score. Curtis did pick up the win for the Panthers. He threw five innings, allowing just the one run on three hits, while striking out eight.

In the bottom of the fifth, AJ Watson was intentionally walked and Dylan Hamel was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second with Carson Poarch coming to bat. Poarch delivered with a three-run homer to left field to give the Panthers a 6-1 advantage.

Hibriten (6-6) ended the game in the sixth after scoring six more runs. Lucas Penley singled and Colton Henthorne walked. Penley came around to score on an error by the shortstop. Cole Conley reached first on the error. Grayam Austin the grounded into a fielder's choice, allowing Penley to score. AJ Watson followed with his second home run of the game, this time a two-run shot. After a Dylan Hamel walk, Jordan Sherrill hit a walk-off, two-run home run to left field, ending the game by way of the ten-run mercy rule.

"We were really aggressive tonight," Henthorne said. "This is probably the first time all year we've been able to come up with some big hits with two outs. I hope it’s a sign of things to come."

Jacob Lail suffered the loss for East Burke. He threw five innings, surrendering six runs on four hits, while striking out five. He also walked two batters and hit three others.

The Panthers return to action with another non-conference game today at Draughn. The game is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m.
