29ers pound Mint Hill to even series
Caldwell County Post 29 pounded out 19 hits en route to a 13-6 victory over Mint Hill Post 4059 on Wednesday night at M.S. Deal Stadium in Granite Falls.
"We had contributions from the whole lineup tonight," said Caldwell head coach Myron Day. "We hit well all the way through the game.
"Taylor Purus did a great job for us on the mound tonight. Andrew Tilghman did a good job of closing it out. We'll go down there tomorrow (Thursday) and we expect to close them out on Friday in front of our great fans."
The 29ers had seven players with multi-hit games. Dylan Hamel led the way with four hits and two runs scored. Mason Biddix had three hits, including a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Brett Macchia had three hits, one RBI and one run scored. Taylor Purus had two hits and two RBIs, while Grayam Austin added two hits and one RBI. Austin Miller had two hits, including a double, one RBI and one run scored.
Tre Harper provided a spark in the second inning. He hit an RBI and later scored when he stole home. Harper finished with three stolen bases on the night.
Purus threw the first six innings in the winning effort. He allowed just two runs on five hits, while striking out six batters. Hunter Davis suffered the loss for Mint Hill. He allowed eight runs on nine hits in two innings of work.
With the win, Post 29 evens the best-of-five playoff series at one game apiece. Game three will be tonight in Mint Hill and game four will be back at M.S. Deal Stadium.
