The South Caldwell golf team claimed the Northwestern 4A Conference championship after shooting a season total of 1,914. Hibriten earned second place in the 3A division with a total score of 1,906.

“I’m real happy for the guys,” said South Caldwell head coach Jeff Thompson. “We’ve been working hard over the past few years to create an established program and I think we’re there. I’ve been real hard on them this year and they’re now reaping the benefits.”

In the overall standings, Hickory won the conference title at 1,836, followed by Hibriten and South. The three aforementioned teams have all qualified for regionals in their respective classes. The Panthers will host the 3A West regionals on Monday. South Caldwell will travel to Huntersville for the 4A West regionals at North Stone Country Club.

“Several guys came through for us,” said Hibriten head coach Larry Taylor. “This is a real thrill for them and we’re looking forward to regionals.”

For South Caldwell, the top scorer was Blake Childers. Childers shot a 76, highlighted by a birdie on a par 3. Childers placed his tee-shot within two feet of the pin to give him an easy tap-in.
