The Caldwell Railroad Commission agreed to settle final charges with a local contractor for the Lenoir Transload facility that was completed last year.

According to terms of the agreement, the commission and Lenoir-based Wilkie Construction have settled two outstanding claims by the contractor for $5,058.36.

The company had sought $28,506.02 in additional payment for asphalt binder, along with grading and excavation of the transload site that is located next to Robinson Lumber Company off Norwood Street (U.S. 321-A) in Lenoir. The agreed upon figure represented the amount for the asphalt binder, though the settlement pertains to both charges.

Railroad Commission attorney David Lackey said the agreement releases the board from any additional contract claims.

In other business, the commission said it will examine moving its meeting in October, provided there are issues to be addressed at that time.
