Burn victim will have surgery
A Gamewell woman airlifted for burns to her hands, arms, legs and feet will go through surgery today, according to a family member.
Evelyn Evans, 53, suffered the burns Sunday after flames spread from her fireplace to the carpet, eventually injuring her.
It was originally reported that Evans was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, but she actually was flown to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem where she is in the burn unit.
Evans' daughter told the News-Topic Tuesday evening that her mother will undergo surgery today to perform skin grafts for the burned areas on her body.
