News-Topic helping unemployed readers
If the answer is yes, The News-Topic has a special offer for Caldwell County residents that are currently unemployed. For $1, you can receive the News-Topic, delivered to your home Tuesday-Sunday for 13 weeks. If you are still unemployed after the three months has passed, you may renew for another 13 weeks for only $1.
To receive this special offer from your News-Topic just bring the stub from your unemployment check and your drivers license to the office at 123 Pennton Ave NW in Lenoir, and we will start your subscription immediately. To renew for another 13 weeks, bring your unemployment check and drivers license back to the News-Topic five days before your subscription expires. We will continue with this offer until you have found employment.
Why are we doing this?
"Many residents in our county have been loyal readers for years but now find themselves unemployed," Circulation Director Mike Lambert said. "We know this has been a difficult time in their lives, and we would like to help."
While the unemployment rate has dropped from a summer high of 15.6 percent to 15.2 percent in Caldwell County, it still means thousands of people are unemployed.
"We realize that many of our readers have had to make decisions about buying food for their families, paying a utility bill or continuing their newspaper subscription," Publisher Terese Almquist said. "But reading the paper may help them find a new job from a listing in our classified section, or save money on groceries by using newspaper coupons and, most importantly, to remain connected to their community by knowing what is happening in Caldwell County.
"We want to be part of the solution for helping Caldwell County residents get back to work, and this is one small way for us to help."
The newspaper office is open, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Questions may be answered by calling Mike Lambert at 828-758-7381.
