HELGA PETERSON

Helga Marie Peterson, 82, died Monday, November 2, 2009 at Palliative Care Center and Hospice of Catawba County. Services are incomplete and will be announced by Sossoman Funeral Home.

DOCK LACKEY

Dock Samuel Lackey, 81, of Berkley Street, Lenoir, died Monday, November 2, 2009 at Lenoir HealthCare Center.

He was born Dec. 29, 1927 in Union County, South Carolina to the late Millard D. and Nellie Smith Lackey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Katherine Lackey; one stepson, Jim Campbell; two brothers and one sister.

Mr. Lackey was a member of Bethel Advent Christian Church and was a United States Army veteran serving in Korea.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Holman Lackey of Alabama; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Ann Roselin and husband Steve of Alabama; one step-daughter-in-law, Mrs. Linda Campbell; one grandson, Billy Satterfield; and eight nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Bethel Advent Christian Church conducted by the Rev. Jerry Burnette and the Rev. Raymond Spann. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. one hour prior to the service at the church.

Serving as pallbearers will be David Benfield, Terry Benfield, Chris Benfield, Brandon Lackey, David Friesland and Josh Lackey.

Laura Ann Goble, 49, of Elisha Coffey Place, Lenoir, died Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care.

She was born June 5, 1960 in Caldwell County to Mrs. Betty McLean Toon of the home and the late Robert Toon.

Mrs. Goble was employed by Harold Keller Wood Works and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors, in addition to her mother, include one son, Walter Goble and wife Brandy of Wilkes County, Georgia; three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Rice and husband Anthony and Mrs. Tina Hester and husband Michael, both of Lenoir and Mrs. Holly Dennie and husband Scott of Icard; two sisters, Mrs. Shirley Elkin of Charlotte, Mrs. Sandy Huffman of South Mountain; one brother, Billy Toon of Morganton; her special friend, James Coffey and his daughter, Megan Pittman; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Setzer's Gap Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. Raymond Spann, the Rev. Ken Byerly and the Rev. Randy Goode. Interment will follow at the Coffey Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the church.

JIMMY BARRETT

Jimmy R. Barrett, 49, of Swanson Dr. Lenoir, died Saturday, October 31, 2009 at Catawba Valley Medical Center.

He was born July 6, 1960 in Caldwell County to the late Clyde James and Pansy Porter Barrett. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers; Bud Barrett, Vernon Junior Woods and David Albert Woods.

Mr. Barrett was a carpenter for Hall's Builders and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Carlene Miller Barrett of the home; two stepsons, Nickolas Parsons of the home and Marcus Parsons of Happy Valley; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Christy Hedrick and her husband Chris of Wilkes County; a brother, Ronnie Woods and his wife Becky of Baton; two sisters, Mrs. Barbara Joe Minton and her husband Ray of Baton and Ms. Bonnie Sue Woods of Gastonia; three grandsons, Christopher Hedrick, Colby Hedrick, Benjamin Hedrick; and one granddaughter, Breanna Hedrick all of Wilkes County.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 8, 2009 at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Dorothy Helton Duncan, 81, of Baker Circle, Granite Falls, died Monday, November 2, 2009 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital.

She was born Sept. 15, 1928 in Caldwell County to the late Luther and Nellie Gibson Helton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold E. Duncan; two sisters, Eva Ward and Marlene Helton.

Mrs. Duncan was retired from Hammary Furniture and was a member of Temple Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Harolyn Roberts and husband Darrell and Mrs. Gail Hill and husband James, both of Granite Falls, Mrs. Patricia Icard and husband Daniel of Hudson and Ms. Darlene Duncan of Lenoir; three brothers, Clyde Helton of Morganton, the Rev. Joe Helton and wife Celina of Granite Falls and the Rev. Bennett Helton and wife Gaye of Lenoir; two sisters, Mrs. Linda Clark of Hudson and Mrs. Carolyn Joplin and husband Harold of Granite Falls; six grandchildren, Mrs. Andrea Helms and husband Alan of S.C., Mrs. Tammy Curtis and husband Tim of Oklahoma, Jim Icard and wife Cindy of Hudson, Ms. Susan Hill of Granite Falls, Mrs. Melisa Norris and husband Mike of Granite Falls and Mrs. Christie Beach and husband Eddie of Hudson; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Temple Hill Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Darrell Hatchell and the Rev. Brian Correll. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the church.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jerry Piercy, Neil Piercy, Bryan Ward, Clay Ward, Mark Ward and Nathan Ward.

OLIVIA STORY

Olivia "Lib" Walker Story, 85, of Union Grove Road, Lenoir, died Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at Valdese General Hospital.

She was born Sept. 28, 1924 in Caldwell County to the late Clarence and Esther Blankenship Walker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Marion Story; one sister, Sybil Walker Shaw; and one brother, Willard Walker.

Mrs. Story was retired from the United States Postal Service after 37 years and was a member of Central Advent Christian Church.

Survivors include two sons, Mickey Story and wife Anne of Newton and Barry Story and wife Susan of Granite Falls; one daughter, Ms. Pat Robbins of Lenoir; and one brother, Ray Walker of Boone.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 6, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Ed Neal and the Rev. Marshall Tidwell. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
