With the weather forecast calling for additional rain and the potential for strong wind gusts, Veterans Day activities in downtown Lenoir today have been reshuffled.

Lenoir American Legion Post 29's service at 11 a.m. has been moved inside to the Legion Hall, located at 401 Main St. Also, the planned dedication of Lenoir's remodeled Veterans Plaza has been postponed.

"The weather forecast just doesn't look good at all," Lenoir City Manager Lane Bailey said. "As a result, the actual dedication of the memorial has been pushed back."

Bailey said the plaza should be ready for the public to enjoy. He added that an alternate date will be chosen to formally recognize the site and did not rule out waiting until Memorial Day in May for the dedication.

The weather forecast is calling for more rain this morning, with wind gusts at or above 25 miles per hour.

The Veterans Plaza features a memorial to Caldwell County residents who gave their lives in defense of the nation. The site includes an array of tiles that have been purchased to recognize members of the armed forces. Tiles can be purchased for $125 at Lenoir City Hall.
